Personally, fall is my favorite season and nothing gets me more excited than the fashion that comes along with the change of weather! It feels as though the seasons change with a blink of the eye, but that doesn’t mean you have to throw away last year’s clothes! Stay chic by dusting off last year’s digs and adding a few more fall essentials.
From fall 2010, you can wear again:
Fur/Faux Fur Vests
Layer your look with a fur/faux fur vest to keep you warm when it starts to get chilly out. Pair your vest with a long sleeve shirt and a pair of jeans. Add a chunky heel for a stylish addition to polish off your look
Over-the-knee Boots
The over-the-knee boots trend continues to stay strong, as this style is here to stay throughout fall and winter. Boots add a glamorous rock ‘n roll feel to any ensemble this season and keeps your little feet warm at the same time.
This season, don’t forget to add a few more additions to your closet!
Crimson
The runways and red carpets have been packed full with a bold and beautiful color; crimson. Wear a crimson dress, jacket, blouse, or a handbag to add a pop of color. The sexy hue really adds excitement to your every day outfits.
Mixed Prints
Mixing prints can be tricky, but just have fun with it! Soft and bold prints complement well together this fall. Mix a light cotton printed tee with a chunky knit in earth tone colors and prints.

Is, of course, all black. When I’m in a rush, or have no clue what to wear, it’s always a very simple and chic choice. In fact, as I’m writing this post, I’ve done it again for today, with all different pieces than those found in the pic, as you probably have more all black items in your wardrobe than you realize. As the temperature tends to fluctuate this time of year, I’m wearing the Fraas Combination Shawl Scarf, $66, a 20×80 inch solid ruffle style that drapes beautifully, adding a more fashion-forward element than my old stand by pashmina does.

Underneath, I’m wearing a nicole by Nicole Miller Pleated Top, $14.80 (was $36), which has an elastic band at the bottom to tuck under or give more volume and length by pulling it downward. The black pants? I have multiple pairs, but this particular one was from Old Navy, many moons ago! How many black garments do you wear on a weekly basis?

On the East Coast it’s no longer sufficient to leave the house without a light jacket, however there are some pieces that transcend the seasons thanks to artful layering. Take for example, the IZ Byer California Floral Scarf Top , on sale for $22.80 (was $38 ) at Kohl’s has the weight and whimsy of a summer top, however paired with some office-friendly neutrals and chic pumps, it becomes a seasonless standout piece that doesn’t have to be packed away with the rest of the summer.
It’s easy to pair this silky scarf-inspired top with black pants and overall neutrals to enhance its presence. Keeping the rest relatively simple certainly will spotlight the key piece, just strive to match the weight of your item with other like layers, i.e knits with knits, wovens with wovens, and choise multi-layers that may be lighter, instead of one bulky layer that will certainly make your summer top lookout of context. What summer, lightweight piece are you going to transition to the fall weather?
Full Disclosure: I was given the IZ Byer top courtesy of the brand, for review.
