[Greetings from the water slide in the Biosphere Pool Complex at Grand Cascades Lodge]
Imagine the usual east coast winter, with snow on the ground and a chill in the air, yet you’re poolside in the Biosphere, surrounded by tropical plants and radiating warmth from a special retractable glass roof, that features 100% light transmission for year-round Vitamin D possibilities. Glance outside of the glass complex and you can’t help but take in the incredible mountain view from the Appalachian Valley, either from a lounge chair, the indoor or heated outdoor pool, from the jacuzzi, or on your way down the swirling Biosphere slide. This much needed respite is located under 50 miles from New York City, in Hamburg, New Jersey, and although utilizing the facility as a winter getaway seems the ultimate use of the place, during the summer months the possibilities for relaxation and entertainment seem equally endless.

So far this summer I’ve been dealing with a fair share of maladies, from colds to aches and pains, cuts, scrapes, skin & eye irritation, bruises and raw skin around my nose as a result of a cold. I’ve replaced the products I usually use to treat and heal during these times with homeopathic solutions from Boiron, a family-run worldwide homeopathic medicine company that’s been around since 1932, and couldn’t be more pleased with the results. Arnicare Gel ($8.69) has not only eased aches and pains, but helped to dissolve the discoloration of bruises rather rapidly. Calendula Cream ($12.99) on the other hand, has been my catch-all for everything from little cuts around my cuticles to that aforementioned uncomfortable and unsightly raw nose look, razor burn, and sunburn. Even though I’ve only been using it for a few weeks, I’m having trouble figuring out how I’ve survived up to this point without it!
Boiron’s Optique 1 Eye Drops ($9.19 for 10 doses) have really come to my aid in combating itchy, dry eyes as a result of allergies and overall, the sensation of dryness and feeling uncomfortable from being sick, while taking the Ruta Graveolens ($8.99) pellets has given me hope of lessening the exhausting eye effects of staring at a computer screen all day long. I’ll always take a homeopathic solution from Boiron over anything else in the medicine aisle of the mass food and drug store, which have fortunately begun to carve out space for some of these products there. You’ll easily find Boiron in natural product stores, such as Whole Foods, and online at BoironUSA.com.

My style today celebrates pieces both old and new, which altogether make me, me, on my special day. I’m always so grateful that I have a summer birthday, so that I can enjoy the best of my favorite season on my day (which is today!), and plan summer-oriented events, such as a trip to a local beach, riding bikes, and eating copious amounts of gelato during the weeks surrounding it. It’s hard not to reflect on the year that has just transpired and the one that lies ahead, hopeful for more ups than downs and goals, large and small, to be met in the next 364 days. Now…let’s celebrate!
