NYFW Spring 2014: Dennis Basso
The Theme: Celebrating the Woman Who Knows What She Wants (and Just How to Get it)
The Color Palette: Black and White, Pastel Blue, Pastel Pink, Tangerine
The Signature Look of the Collection: Basso has proven that he can translate his luxurious sensibility and expertise in all things fur and exotic leather into a viable eveningwear business that flourishes every season by taking his design approach of sturdy structure and softening it up with fluid, floor-sweeping gowns to scalloped, hip-hugging lace shorts paired with shapely vests and moto jackets. There’s no better fête for a fashion company’s 30th anniversary, as Basso is celebrating this year, than with an incredibly precise, and refreshing, collection. Spring could prove a particular challenge, as fur accents here and there are one thing, but can’t be relied upon heavily to define a silhouette. Basso takes it all in stride, proving that his garments can certainly stand on their own, but don’t they just look polished and 100% complete with a bit of fur nipping at the cuffs?

Collaboration Crush! The Man Repeller Teams Up with Superga
From our friends at thefind.com:
While I’ve never had the guts to go right out and try it, I’ve always envied The Man Repeller’s effortless knack for fearless mixing and matching. Skirts over pants, muscle tees tucked into pencil skirts, plaids with metallics over florals – how does she do it? Luckily, Leandra Medine’s latest style venture is something I can easily jump right into, free from any fear of committing a fashion faux pas. The Man Repeller x Superga collaboration collection boasts a series of TMR-approved kicks, perfect for stomping around the city. From metallic boucle sneakers to velvet high tops (Leandra’s personal favorite), it’s hard not to love these go-with-everything tennies. In fact, I might just have to do something crazy like pair them with a sweater dress or something. Or, you know… something substantially more mix-and-matchy! Scoop up a pair for yourself in person at Fred Segal stores, or online!

NYFW Spring 2014: J.Mendel
The Theme: Serge Gainsbourg’s song “Cargo Culte”
The Color Palette: Pastel Peach, Yellow, Light Grey, Cream
The Signature Look of the Collection: Designer Gilles Mendel’s lady this season is truly the epitome of Parisian chic; a phrase that I use sparingly, and dusted off solely for this show, this season. Everything that a woman would strive to exude when it comes to communicating through clothing — stylish, sensual, and incredibly polished, is all evident in this collection. Peek-a-boo lace, carefully inlaid into the garments, organza, jacquard, and even geometric shaping pay homage to traditional pieces with expressively modern updates. One of the most memorable lineups for spring, expect iterations of Mendel’s designs to grace every store, from high to low, come spring (or sooner!).
