Through the wonder that is Twitter, I recently came to find out about a lovely e-store with amazing finds: Rice and Beans Vintage.
If you’re a vintage hound like me (since the tender age of 13), you’ll appreciate the easy to navigate layout of the site that directs you to either: Vintage Designer Clothing, Vintage Clothing, Modern Designer Clothing, Vintage & Modern Designer Handbags & Accessories, and more! I frequently love digging through random thrift shops for my own vintage finds, or shopping ebay for them, but like how at Rice & Beans vintage there’s no waiting or guesswork involved as to the quality, size, or even if the product is still available or not (this is my #1 pet peeve; there’s nothing like getting excited about a rare vintage find, only to click and find out it’s already sold out!). If you’re into designer vintage, you’ll find the oldies but goodies here; ranging from Pierre Cardin to Salvatore Ferragamo, Chanel, Pucci, Yves Saint Laurent, Christian Dior, and Courreges.
I’m a huge sucker for vintage designer shoes — after once stumbling upon a few pairs of Bruno Magli peep-toe pumps in my size for $3 each at a thrift store I was hooked (and I swear vintage designer shoes just fit me better). Anyways, the gem for me on Rice & Beans Vintage this week are these Vintage 80’s SALVATORE FERRAGAMO Navy Blue Leather Heels w/Patent Leather Cap Toes & Gold Signature Accent, sz 6.5 for $70. Since they are navy, I’m thinking a vintage nautical theme would be perfect for the summer! Pair them with a navy & white striped American Living T-Shirt Dress ($40, JCPenney), add a modern bauble to your wrist via this Frank Gehry Torque Bracelet ($600, Tiffany), and go classic Jackie-O with oversized frames , like these Xhilaration Plastic Vintage Square Sunglasses ($12.99, Target). All in all, the shoes are gorgeous, and the look is completely vintage chic!

Keds bring back a lot of memories for me; I wore my canvas pink ones to my family reunion and thought I was the coolest one there — the white leather ones were worn on the first day of school, and I loved wearing double layers of socks with my white canvas ones. Needless to say, it’s been a while since I last slipped a pair of Keds over my little tootsies. Recently I’ve noticed that Keds has been making a big comeback, seen on the hipster set, and Keds-like knock-offs found at Urban Outfitters. The Keds resurgence may have gone largely unnoticed, however one reason compelled me to pay attention: the brand has recently launched Keds Green Label, in a style similar to the originals, and a boat shoe-esque style for starters. What’s so green about them?
Practically everything, including 100% organic cotton, non-toxic inks and dyes, recycled rubber, shoe laces made from recycled water bottles, and recycled insoles. Keds was kind of enough to give me a pair to test out, and I immediately went for the Willow Lace-Ups in Black ($55). I love the Keds “license plate” on the back, along with the small green tag identifying them as part of the Green Label. I also noticed that the Willow lace-ups have nice little bumper around them and are way more sturdy than my Keds of yore, more like a pair of classic Vans. In addition, the insole provides nice, comfy padding and I’m really into the eyelet detail; one of them per shoe is green. Overall, I do have to say that Keds figured out a way to seamlessly introduce an eco-friendly shoe without compromising style or comfort. If you’ve also fell in love with Keds again, also check out the Keds Plenty by Tracy Reese collaboration and another exciting sustainable, organic line: Loomstate for Keds.
