I never was a person who believed in multiple products, unless they were combined into one — less money to spend, and less to carry was always my motto! In the summer especially, I love that my moisturizer I put on in the morning daily also has SPF in it, which means dual benefits without having to worry about grabbing for the sunscreen. One problem though — what happens later in the day when the benefits start to wear off, and I’m outside for an extended duration of time? That just means re-application, but my 6 oz bottle of moisturizer is not going to travel with me — there’s only so much room in my bag, and I really don’t want to risk a huge creamy mess in my handbag if it starts to leak!
Back to the subject: I recently discovered The Plaza Beauty by Warren-Tricomi, a pristine shop that offers hand-selected items from a variety of reknowned beauty and home brands, located in the Grand Concourse Level of The Plaza Hotel. They were kind enough to let me try out the Korres Suncare Watermelon Face Sunscreen Stick with an SPF of 30, and I couldn’t wait to relay to the FPD readers how cool this thing is! I’ve always been a fan of the Greek brand Korres, known for their natural ingredients, and am now smitten with the duality of the Watermelon face stick. For starters, no grease, no mess, no purse melting; the stick goes on smoothly, and left my skin feeling as if there really wasn’t any sunscreen on it, that could come to the surface as soon as I started to perspire. It’s also safe for children and lips — would you ever think of applying regular sunscreen to your lips – I think not! Plus there’s more: it doubles as a highlighter, so you can accent your cheeks and brows- ingenious! Besides all of these wonderful things, it’s non comedogenic, and free of parabens, mineral oils, silicone, propylene glycol, and ethanolamine. So there you have it – multiple functions, one product, and a great price: $24.50. A little goes a long way, so you’ll be sure to get a great bang for your buck!

This past Friday, July 31st, the first ever JCPenney in Manhattan opened at Herald Square in midtown — one block away from the massive, iconic Macy’s location. Now some of you may be thinking “What’s the big deal? They are located in every single mall in my area!”.
To answer that, there is an entire untapped customer base of Manhattanites that have never been to a JCPenney, or haven’t had the opportunity to visit one lately since there aren’t any close to the city. Plus, what makes this one unique is the branding and positioning of the store offering value-oriented products, especially the designer lines such as I ♥ Ronson (Charlotte Ronson), American Living (Ralph Lauren), Fabulosity (Kimora Lee Simmons), and Nicole Miller. The new Manhattan stores stands out from the rest in a variety of ways, including floor to ceiling racks for merchandise, various digital tools, such as scanner communication with the stockroom to ask for the selected style and three additional footwear alternatives, and same-day delivery. The grand opening indeed was a festive affair, attended by Mayor Michael Bloomberg and Kimora Lee Simmons, with many more events, prize giveaways and celebrity coming in the next month.

Spilling off the resort runways this season is surprisingly non-other than chic menswear. From Armani to Viktor & Rolf to 3.1 Phillip Lim, stream-lined trousers and strong blazers are the must haves for resort, that more and more blend in with the other seasons. While such pieces sound very masculine and rightfully so, the tailored looks however are a keen match for the feminine physique (read: very sexy). Armani showed an edgy take on the trend, with black and navy pin-striped suits with high-waisted, tapered pants and cinched, slightly shrunken blazers. If this sounds a little intimidating, look to outfits like those of Moschino, which works in more feminine, ethereal pieces into the menswear lineup.
Try pairing structured trousers with a flowing blouse to provide a yin and yang to the masculine/feminine balance; try Alloy’s Twill Blazer ($54.50)with something lightweight and slightly boho, such as this Voile Ruffle Trim Top ($39.50) from Express. The pants? Go for a mid-slightly higher rise in pants, something with a slight sheen, definitely a bit baggy yet tailered, or a twill will work. Start out with these Everywhere Wide-Leg Trousers in dark steel or black ($25) at Old Navy. So now that you know the trick of casual menswear is balance — taking something your boyfriend would wear and mixing it with the most feminine piece you own — is a tried and true fashion recipe to ultra-chic style!
