Via our lovely friends at thefind.com:
The look in pleated skirts has gotten increasingly smaller and smaller – no we’re not talking the size of the actual skirt, I’m talking about the width of the pleats. Used to be pleated skirts were more school-girl style – and those are definitely still adorable! – but the latest trend is a more flowing, pleated look. These are great because they’re not as structured and therefore a little more forgiving in terms of how they fit and look on different body types.

These are especially great in solid colors, when you need a basic bottom but want something with a little more flare. Don’t forget to add a more structured top – like a boxy jacket or a fitted sweater or blouse. You’ll need to balance out the movement on the bottom with something more close-fitting on top.

FPD just learned that in lieu of the debacle that “Project Runway” season six has become regarding the dispute between networks, Bravo will be launching a program called “The Fashion Show” — a designer competition where the winner gets to sell their clothes at a major fashion chain (no info as to which one that may be!). The judges will be Isaac Mizrahi, Kelly Rowland of Destiny’s Child fame, and IMG’s Fern Mallis. Is a hit or a flop on the way? Who knows, but I think that the wheel, at this point, definitely needs to be reinvented! Although “Project Runway” was a launching pad for Bravo’s other shows, not to mention a cash cow, I would expect a differnt angle, at least, from them on the famous fashion competition. How about launching a competition to guest blog on Fashion Pulse Daily? 🙂

Bibhu Mohapatra’s Fall-Winter 2009 presentation was the first I saw this spring, and quite a nice segue into fashion week, I may add. Held at the Bryant Park Hotel on Thursday, February 12th, while the tents outside were still being rigged, Mohapatra’s luxurious, sophisticated, and glamorous garments set an immediate standard for the rest of fashion week. The presentation was tantalizingly tactile, incorporating such diverse materials as silk, sequins, fur, lace, leather and a variety of thick, woven fabrics, not to mention the techniques of pleating, draping, tucking, belting, and sculpting. Essentially, it was all I could do not to jump up on the platform, bury my head in a model’s gray, cinema-star fur coat, and get myself unceremoniously booted out. But I’m glad I managed to resist, because I got to see the entire collection unfold in front of me in all of its 1930s evening wear, Japanese kimono, biker, and insect-inspired glory. (If you think I’m exaggerating check out the pictures!)
