Prada spring 2011

February 8, 2011

Go Minimal or Go Home

by fashionpulse

Did your jaw drop as far as ours when you saw Claire Danes and Emma Stone at the Golden Globes? What a bold move, to embrace spring’s hot minimalism trend amid a sea of beading and bling. Yet, if you remember our coverage of the Prada and Jil Sander Spring 2011 collections, you probably saw this coming. Bright, matte, “neon” colors, simple shapes, and pared down details are the way to do less. And we like less —  a lot.

Emporio Armani keeps it cool and blue with these inky shades for $175, available at Armani 5th Ave in NYC.

Bright pops of color are a great way to stand out on a crisp spring day. Peter Som manages to make a snakeskin skirt light and airy, $2,850 at Peter Som, NYC, and Céline color blocks a silk crepe shirt, $870 at Céline, Bal Harbour, FL.

Just because you’re doing a pared-down look doesn’t mean you have to skimp on the accessories. Rock this delicate gold and quartz Dinah ring from Tous for $335. Contrast it with Reed Krakoff‘s sporty yet sophisticated pink alligator strap watch for $2,395; call 877-733-3525.

Add a little sheen to all the matte with this crossbody patent leather bag from Burberry for $1,195.

Every girl knows the shoes can make or break the outfit. Pair Christian Louboutin patent leather pumps for $695 with primary colors to turn up the neon volume. Call 310-247-9300.

Milan Fashion Week: Gucci, Prada and Fendi

by fashionpulse

Gucci

From military to tribal to rock ‘n roll, the Gucci Spring 2011 designs covered all the bases. The color volume was turned way up, with vivid blues the color of the Amalfi coast, and burnt orange like Moroccan sand dunes at sunset. Creative Director Frida Giannini listed ’70s photos by Guy Bourdin, Chris von Wangenheim, and David Bailey as inspiration for the punch of bright colors, while Marrakesh was also noted, hence the tassels, braiding, and Northern-Africa feel of various pieces.  Both the woman who loves the exotic and the one who wants style without gimmicks can look to Gucci.

Fendi

For the Fendi Spring 2011 collection, the collaboration between Karl Lagerfeld and Silvia Venturini Fendi produced an uncluttered, lofty array of clothing, perfect for those hot summer days when keeping cool is key. The classic Fendi structured stripe detail was ever present, particularly on the belts and bags, and were an ideal contrast to the relaxed motif, in the form of flowing drawstring waist dresses and blouses and fluid calf-length skirts. It was easy to imagine frolicking in the house’s light creations under a scorching spring sun through a field of daisies.

Prada

For Prada, spring 2011 was all about uniformity, from the basic smock of hospital scrubs to the bold stripes of an inmate’s garb. And bold she succeeded in being; the oranges, greens, blues, and violets seemed plugged in and larger than life, made in part by the wide sleeves and slightly billowing arms of the jackets and dresses. Josephine Baker and her banana skirt flamboyance topped off the collection’s colorful brilliance, which just goes to show that a bold block of color doesn’t need upgrading.
