Down the red carpet came Moschino Cheap & Chic‘s jet-setters,carrying bulky shopping and grouped into themes; first came the rockers, sporting military pants, gold chains, leather gloves, and, of course, mini guitar cases. Animal instincts were definitely on the brain; models wrapped in gigantic furs and leopard print dresses were also found in the collection. A little too much for your taste? The more refined items came with tweed jackets and print dresses again – very chic indeed. In another look made for the style daring, Rossella Jardini dressed her party girl in a pink dress with a humongous rose decorating the top. As the show’s finalem shout, the last model walked out in a sparkly shirt dress that said “Fashion Must Go On!”; a reference to the recession, perhaps? Whatever it might signify (or maybe nothing at all?), it is evident from this collection that in good times or bad, the Moschino Cheap & Chic girl keeps her chin up.

The Italian winter must be colder than we thought, for Prada’s F/W Collection was thick with billowing layers of knit, wool stockings, fur-lined leather and dark tweed. Twirl-begging A-line dresses donned frills and prints while mustard yellow, tan, and geometric patterns updated a 70’s aesthetic with pointed-rim glasses. Prim and proper Prada was (with a naturally quirky edge), emphasized by slick and simple high-styled chignons.

Fendi
Fendi’s Spring 2010 collection successfully embodied some of my very favorite things: sheer fabrics, raw edges, lots of neutral tones, and a romantic-yet-rough overall aesthetic (not to mention, the runway show was set to my favorite album of the year, The Dead Weather’s ‘Horehound’!). Karl Lagerfeld took the season’s obsession with transparency to a whole new level, all the way down to completely see-through evening clutches. The collection successfully blended toughness and relaxed femininity and the outcome was one of the best Fendi shows in recent years.

Dolce & Gabbana
The design duo’s S/S 2010 show was heavy on the lace in a super charming, incredibly flirty, burlesque-meets-tango sort of way. The mixture of textures and fabrics that one might not initially think would be well meshed (such as denim and lace) turned out to be a hit as the details were impeccable and the collection was true to the house’s Sicilian roots. The show lacked the giant ball gowns that have been prominent in its last few seasons, instead showing a return to form with tailored suits, hotpants, corsets, and mini dresses.

Alberta Ferretti
Romantic chiffon dresses were all the rage at Alberta Ferretti’s Spring/Summer 2010 show. The soft, delicate dresses featured this season’s trendy pastel palette with a few strong splashes of color and embroidery hidden amongst the nightwear-inspired floaty fabrics. Though this season has seen no shortage of gauzy feminine gowns, Ferretti’s are among the best as they are very wearable, beautiful, and timeless.

Vintage glamour at its best– Giorgio Armani reworks the fascination with the Orient of yore and dramatic silhouettes of the 1930s to reveal a modern-day couture equivalent that will be sure to dazzle the eye for more than one season. A favorite detail from the collection is the winged sleeves, shoulders and pant hems, practically an ode to pagoda rooftops. Hence, the runway look of the day embodies those elements — just when I was thinking that a classic suit jacket could no longer be reworked into something fabulous, Armani proves me wrong! I love the hand fan print, and the curved skirt hemline gives it the proper couture touch.
