It’s all happened to us: you wrote down the address of where you need to go on a little piece of paper, and in a rush to leave, you forgot it. Don’t panic – just text the kgb! The kgb, or Knowledge Generation Bureau, is a service that will do all of the research for you, for about .50 cents per text. Once you sign up for the service, start texting away anytime you are stuck in traffic, wage a bet with friends about an answer, are merely bored, or can’t get to the internet fast enough. Text “kgbkgb” (542542), and within 3-5 minutes you’ll have an answer from a kgb special agent. I had the pleasure of testing out the service this week, and was told that the best practice is to be very specific, but could also ask subjective questions as well. To truly test the accuracy of the service, I asked a mix of questions that I both knew and didn’t know the answer to, and some silly stuff thrown in the mix as well.
To list just a few of my questions:
“Why do men hate to do the dishes”
“Is Wall-E out on video yet?”
“Are there any direct flights from NYC to Portland, OR for less than $400 in July?”
“Where can I buy noise reduction blinds online for less than $75?”
“What are the cross streets for 1230 Sixth Avenue in NYC?”
“When will Thakoon for Target go on sale?”
I would say that for the most part, the service was very accurate, and would even send an additional “food for thought” type response question. The only two responses I got that were not what I was looking were with the last two questions: the special agent on the other end of the message interpreted my Thakoon question to mean when do the items initially become available at Target, opposed to when do the prices get marked down, and the Sixth Avenue address cross streets response was off by 7-8 blocks; a hefty difference when schlepping around in 20 degree sleeting weather in Manhattan. Overall though, Fashion Pulse Daily found this to be a fun, informative service, and would recommend trying it out, especially if you don’t have the option of internet on your phone.
