With a few hot, humid days left before fall rolls around, Garnier recently celebrated the heat with a cool rooftop BBQ at the Empire Hotel. On hand were an array – and I mean quite the spread – of new products that will keep your hair and skin healthy and hydrated without being weighed down. And isn’t that always the challenge?
For hair, the new Sleek & Shine Blow Dry Perfector 2-Step Smoothing Kit ($11.99) was especially exciting. You simply apply the 20-min Smooth-It Serum, followed by the Heat-Activated Perfect-it Cream, and just blow dry or flat iron as usual. The sweetest part of the deal? Up to seven shampoos later, you’ll still have the perfect blow out! How cool is that?
In the skincare department, your face never has to be a sweaty mess again, thanks to the new Moisture Rescue Collection. Garnier happily effuses that the trio of cleansing foam, gel-cream and UV lotion offers “light refreshing hydration at a refreshingly light price.” They retail for $5.99, $7.99 and $7.99 respectively. As a tip on those extra hot and humid days, give the gel-cream a whirl in the fridge for your own mini spa moment. Ahhhhh now that’s refreshing!

I recently received from Garnier their brand new Skin Renew Anti-Dark-Circle Roller, a 2-in-1 eye roller that both corrects and conceals dark circles. I feel like I’ve chronically had dark under eye circles since age 8, so I was intrigued to test out this new product; it comes in one universal tint shade that is quite sheer, and tended to blend well into my super white skin. I even put a little on a forming pimple on my chin, and it seemed to do the trick there as well. The correction aspect is executed via the ingredients of caffeine and lemon essence which are meant to stimulate, smooth, and brighten the area under your eyes over time. I’ve only tested it for three days so far, so I can’t quite vouch yet for the long term effects, but I really like its thin, sleek shape and roller ball application. The Garnier Skin Renew Anti-Dark-Circle Roller will be available in July of 2010, and will retail for $12,99.

Before the craziness of the holidays began, I attended the Garnier Herbashine event, the newest addition to Garnier’s haircare line that launches this month, and is a color creme with bamboo extracts available in 18 shades for $7.99 at most major drugstores. The new haircolor range comes with a fragrant aroma of top notes including apple, raspberry, black currant, and peach (weird to talk about hair dye in such a way, but I like it!), and includes bamboo extracts, av0cado, and shea butter to help fortify the hair cuticle during the coloring process.
Not only is the color also ammonia free, but it is also low commitment; it takes only 10 minutes to apply and lasts through 28 washes, making it a new hybrid category. It’s not a semi- nor a demi-permanent hair color, hence Garnier has dubbed it a soft-lift, since it handles greys, lifts hair color up a level, and no visible root line. So what does this mean to you? Essentially, don’t pick a color too far outside of your current/natural color range for its effects to truly take hold. Now isn’t the time to go from blonde to black, however if you want to lighten, darken, add lustre, or fortify your current shade a bit, Herbashine wil do the job. I’m going to use ‘800’ and become a darker, winter blonde – you’ll be sure to see the results soon!
