With fashion month now coming to a close, Paris Fashion Week solidified the major trends that we’ll most definitely be seeing in spring 2018. Following in the footsteps of New York, London, and Milan, key trends from Paris continue to be bold and daring. One standout trend from the runways is patent leather/vinyl pieces, featured prominently in both clothing and accessories. Designers like Balmain, Proenza Schouler, and Isabel Marant all incorporated this look into their most recent collections.
Kym Ellery was inspired by forward thinkers of the 20th century, as well as the 1960’s decade when creating her spring 2018 line. The collection was packed with references to retro-looks, and included pieces like statement blouses and flared pants, as well as a black patent leather a-line skirt. Designer Tuomas Merikoski of AALTO featured this trend in the form of a slouchy pant, while in the accessories department, Proenza Schouler paired every look with a pair of patent leather, pointed toe shoes.

Throughout Paris Fashion Week, statement trends like metallic fabrics and bold, vibrant colors were all key styles for this upcoming fall season. One that proved to be most versatile throughout the shows was the classic turtleneck. This piece appeared on almost every runway, solidifying its place as a staple once again for the colder months of the year. Designers like Elie Saab, Christian Dior, and Chanel all featured the turtleneck in their collections, each in their own signature aesthetic.
Zuhair Murad drew inspiration for his show from French music and fashion icon Francoise Hardy, showing a simple black turtleneck layered under a cropped jacket. Stella McCartney took a monochromatic approach to the style in her collection, featuring a turtleneck camel-colored jumpsuit under an ankle length coat of the same tone, both in a slightly oversized fit. Channeling a more edgy side was Saint Laurent, which included a white turtleneck sweater paired with a black leather jacket and skirt.
