Mandy Coon
Influenced by a jellyfish’s ability to inspire tremendous awe as well as fear, Mandy Coon presented a collection that showcased this striking duality. In a combination of black, white and lush orange, her pieces were majestic and powerful, as well as beautiful. Her innovative designs were assembled using fringe, leather, and burlap giving them a rough feel, perfectly balanced by the flowing silk fabrics, flirty ruffles, and sheer detailing. The collection was uniquely whimsical, with each item more dazzling than the previous.
Billy Reid
Billy Reid‘s Spring 2011 Men’s Collection truly embodied the characteristic charm of Southern Louisiana. Each outfit was effortlessly put together, with a mixture of different textures and materials. Tweed and plaid joined forces to create a casual, yet classically chic ensemble in tones of blue and brown. These layered looks were vintage inspired and versatile. With his combination of textured blazers, leather jackets, button up shirts, and classic trousers, this designer is truly one to keep on the radar!

Daniel Vosovic
Former Project Runway contestant Daniel Vosovic began his show with a short film clip, a mysterious backwoods as the setting. A pulsating drum beat was heard, and the models began to move down the dirt-encrusted runway. Like the wilderness that helped to inspire the collection, the garments had a raw, natural quality about them. The textures were gritty and the colors were largely comprised of earth tones. There was a certain primitiveness to Daniel’s designs, yet, at the same time there was a marked sophistication in the feminine silhouettes and delicate draping.

On Friday, September 10th, What Goes Around Comes Around celebrated Fashion’s Night Out with the debut of their limited edition custom vintage collections. The collections were shaped by the collaborations of four remarkable designers: Gilded Age, Pamela Love, George McCracken, and Thread Social. The idea behind each collection was to rework vintage clothing into something even more spectacular, and that is exactly what was achieved. The collections consisted of acid wash denim, silver studded vests, velvet pants, fur jackets, plaids, and chunky knits. With an old-fashioned yet modern charm, every piece was one-of-a-kind.

Watching the Gilded Age S/S 2011 show, all that kept running through my mind was, “That is exactly what I want my boyfriend to wear!” Comprised of amazingly soft cashmere sweaters layered over rolled-up sleeve shirts and destroyed jeans, these clothes are for the effortlessly chic man. With a great assortment of light-weight khaki blazers and popping tropical prints that were more manly than Honolulu-touristy, all paired with boat shoes (because what is sexier than a guy wearing shoes without socks?) the show presented one handsome silhouette after another.

The Z Spoke by Zac Posen 2011 Collection was a fabulously crafted contemporary collection highlighted by vibrant colors and eye-popping prints. If there is one thing that this collection isn’t lacking, it is attitude. Intended for a youthful, trendy shopper, each piece is flirty and funky, sometimes bordering on outright silly. Comprised of blazers, high wasted trousers, ruffles, and lace, this collection is simply a blast- perfect for the girl who loves fashion but doesn’t take it too seriously.
