Garnier’s New HerbaShine: Less Commitment, More Fortification
Before the craziness of the holidays began, I attended the Garnier Herbashine event, the newest addition to Garnier’s haircare line that launches this month, and is a color creme with bamboo extracts available in 18 shades for $7.99 at most major drugstores. The new haircolor range comes with a fragrant aroma of top notes including apple, raspberry, black currant, and peach (weird to talk about hair dye in such a way, but I like it!), and includes bamboo extracts, av0cado, and shea butter to help fortify the hair cuticle during the coloring process.
Not only is the color also ammonia free, but it is also low commitment; it takes only 10 minutes to apply and lasts through 28 washes, making it a new hybrid category. It’s not a semi- nor a demi-permanent hair color, hence Garnier has dubbed it a soft-lift, since it handles greys, lifts hair color up a level, and no visible root line. So what does this mean to you? Essentially, don’t pick a color too far outside of your current/natural color range for its effects to truly take hold. Now isn’t the time to go from blonde to black, however if you want to lighten, darken, add lustre, or fortify your current shade a bit, Herbashine wil do the job. I’m going to use ‘800’ and become a darker, winter blonde – you’ll be sure to see the results soon!

It’s a Very Givenchy Holiday – Add Some Shine to Your Look

It’s never too late to add a touch of holiday sparkle and shine to your makeup regimen, and I’ve found the new, limited edition holiday palette from Givenchy to perfectly meet my needs. I tested the latest lipstick, lipgloss, and eye liner in elegant pearl, tender pearl, and pearl shine, and was beyond pleased with the results. I never like to go overboard with the shimmer, and these floaty, light colors are an easy way to add some oomph to your usual color palette. The Gloss Interdit Ultra-Shiny Color Plumping Effect in ‘elegant pearl’ is a color that is out of this world; the silver shade possesses an intense, liquidy-silver shade inside of the bottle, but when applied, blends so well that you look less ‘space age chic’ and more ‘runway ready’. Also worth a mention is the subtle pink shade ‘pearl shine’, found in the Rouge Interdit Shine Lipstick, which is an amazingly easy shade of pink to wear due to its pale hue, but also the packaging of the lipstick is incredible! It’s most certainly very well-branded, with the ribbon and Givenchy logo hanging below – bravo!
Where to buy:
Gloss Interdit Ultra-Shiny Color Plumping Effect, $24.50 at Sephora in elegant pearl and tender pearl
Rouge Interdit Shine Lipstick, $27, at Sephora in pearl shine
Parad’Eyes Fluid Eye Liner, $27, at Sephora, in elegant and tender pearl.

Maybelline’s Kicking it up a Notch
I recently attended a special preview for Maybelline’s new Winter 2010 products, and left quite impressed with a new appreciation for the makeup line. According to Maybelline, this season they were focused on creating an innovative product featuring technologies on par with professional brands, but at an incredibly affordable price point.
My favorite line was the Eye Studio Color Plush Silk Eyeshadows, which are shimmery, glittery eye shadow quad palettes, and are unique in the sense that they can be used wet or dry for more intense looks ranging in appearance. In fact, the makeup expert showed me how she was able to create eleven different shades from a four color palette, just by mixing colors and using water – it’s simple enough that anyone can do it! Continuing in the new Eye Studio collection, Maybelline also came out with the baked duo palettes, entitled Color Pearls Marbelized Eyeshadows; great for honing in on that particular color that you are absolutely obsessed with!
Another exciting product was the Lasting Drama Gel Eyeliner. The liner is a creamy gel texture that is extremely easy to apply with the brush – included with purchase! A small amount of the gel liner is sufficient for either a fine or thick line and will last throughout the day. The eyeliner will be available in black, brown, and – for a limited time – royal blue. The liner also blends well with their eye shadows and can help create additional shades.
They’re also expanding their already extensive mascara line; these are great for anyone who wants professional looking lashes but lacks the skill and experience of a makeup artist. The new XXL Pro by Eye Studio will give you the option of extra volume, color, length, or 24-hour coverage. A second new mascara, Lash Stiletto Voluptuous, is truly unique in that the brush is curvy so that, when applied, it creates the effect of longer, fuller, better colored lashes.
Don’t worry – all the focus wasn’t on the eyes! They’re also coming out with new lip glosses, each specially flavored (some of them tasted very good!), called Shine Sensational Lip Gloss. The glosses range in color and taste and come in sheer and shimmery and creamy with better coverage. Some of the flavors included chocolate, caramel, peppermint, strawberry, and orange.
They also had something for the skin; the Instant Age Rewind Eraser is a treatment makeup that is made with goji berry and has SPF 18. The product comes with an applicator so you don’t have to use your fingers which helps the product go on smoothly. The Eraser will be available in 12 different shades and will sell for $12.99. They also launched a new Primer Skin Transformer, which is used prior to foundation application, that is priced at $9.99.
These products won’t be out for a few more weeks, but you may be able to find them in stores soon after Christmas!
