L.L. Bean Signature Fall 2010 Collection – An In-Depth Look

Yesterday I was able to spend some time on a conference/video chat with L.L. Bean’s Creative Director Alex Carleton, who talked about mining the LL bean archives of over 100 years to gather inspiration for the new fall 2010  L.L. Bean Signature collection.

Alex said editing was the biggest challenge for the fall line – “Where to start and where to begin; the great thing about the company is that there are all these decades that we can draw inspiration from, and looking at the decades so that they can inform our design process today. Defining New England style, based in the outdoors, preppy yet rustic, versatility, a collection that can take you from the country to the city,” were all key elements that he noted.
He also named Ali MacGraw as inspiration, who looked and personified the style of the line. Otherwise, the style for fall is natural, rich colors, classic styling, tailored fit, retro prints and patterns, and the line overall is based on mix and match.

Slouchy Meets Sexy With These Off-The-Shoulder Tees! (thefind.com Guest Post)

Or, for a bit of dressier embellishment, I love this Michael Stars sequined top or this zipper-detailed one by Juicy Couture, which can both be dressed up with leggings and a pair of heels for a more upscale look!

Trend Alert: Brides Go Glam for 2010

Bridal trends over the past few seasons have been veering away from conservative and adding more non-traditional details, ranging from shorter hemlines, color-infused details to tiers of ruffles and rosettes.  One look that’s still going strong is old school, red-carpet glamour with a mix of over-the-top runway.  Think movie sirens like Ava Gardner, Marlene Dietrich and Liz Taylor with a lil’ Dior thrown in for fall wedding dresses.  Luxurious fabrics, faux-fur and gathered trains with embellished crystals scream classic vintage movies.  Warm, dusty colors such as pale pink, salmon and lavender have been very dominant for bridesmaid dresses this spring.  For the Melissa Sweet line, red made quite a statement for an alternative to a fairer color palette.  One can assume that this line is referencing the Carolina Herrera Spring 2010 collection  of retro hats and feathers, since these straw fedoras as a bridesmaid accessory are amazing!
