New York Fashion Week has a new home at Lincoln Center, and the vibe so far is of mild confusion and comradeship. Give it one more day though and the fashion set will be back to its old antics! So far I’ve traveled around a bit for backstage beauty reviews, the shows, and the Independent Fashion Bloggers Conference, so day 1 was packed with seeing familiar faces and the usual running around with proper nutrients or caffeine. Fingers crossed I make it through the week! Please stay tuned for more posts from featured writers exclusively for Fashion Pulse Daily.

Vena Cava
Grecian, gorgeous, and silky, the color palette spanned rich hues of putty, ink, cardamon, sand, and teal. The Vena Cava girl has grown up a bit, but hasn’t lost her indie zest.

A month ago, Fashion Pulse Daily kicked off the ‘Illustrate This‘ series will illustrator Molly Schafer.
Now moving from fashion to beauty, Schafer’s latest exclusive work for FPD is an illustration of the FlowerbyKenzo fragrance.
About Kenzo: The House of KENZO was founded in Paris in 1970 by Takada Kenzo and included mens, women’s and children’s offerings, with KENZO PARFUMS launched in 1987 and FlowerbyKenzo originally launching in 2000. Channeling red poppy, FlowerbyKenzo is an oriental, floral scent and includes notes of Bulgarian rose and Parma violet. The fragrance has recently seen a resurgence in interest and its marketing efforts via the new, refillable eau de parfum refillable bottles and refill pouches, which cost about 20% less than the regular bottle.
About the illustration: “The design of Kenzo’s Flower is so whimsical, I immediately imagined the perfume being packaged by little elves,” says Schafer. “I had so much fun drawing this. I was inspired to create a set of pinback buttons featuring this little red cap elf. I’ve just listed them on my Etsy shop.”
About the artist: Molly Schafer is an artist and illustrator living in Chicago. Her illustrations have recently appeared in Annalemma, Kong magazine, and on the Center for Biological Diversity’s Endangered Species Condoms. Schafer’s art has been exhibited at Exit Art, artpoint Miami, Branch Gallery, Lump Gallery, Space 1026, The Andy Warhol Museum, The Corcoran Gallery of Art and at Lollapalooza 2007.Schafer is also co-founder of The Endangered Species Print Project, an art & conservation project selling limited edition art prints to support limited populations.

I recently was given the opportunity to try a pair of my liking from the new Jessica Simpson Jeanswear Collection, and although there were a great many styles to choose from, I went for these Jessica Simpson Pants, Twill Cuffed Skinny Cargos, (was $59, now $24.99 at Macys!). Skinny cargos are a VERY hot item for fall, which many premium denim brands making really great, slimming pairs that don’t add bulk on your thighs, where the pockets tend to lay. The fabric of these are thin and soft, the rise not too low, and long enough for tall girls, but with just the right scrunch at the bottom for us petite ladies too. Here, I’ve paired it with a Poleci top, belt from another dress in my closet, MiMi by Sorrelli earrings, Rebecca Minkoff bracelets, and Isaac Mizrahi for Target pumps. The line is affordably priced, with the jeans ranging from $49-$69, in a variety of styles, such as jean leggings, boot cut, flare, and skinny. Find them at over 1,000 major department stores nationwide including Macy’s, Dillard’s, Belk and Bon-Ton, and online at Jessica Simpson Jeanswear Collection.
