Here’s an inside look at the Ethical Fashion Preview and Accessory Exhibition. Each featured brand is eco-conscious and sustainable. It is impossible not to love these innovative, new collections for Spring 2011!
Nicole Bridger
Nicole Bridger’s 2011 collection is made up of simple pieces for everyday, casual wear. These soft cotton garments include beautifully draped dresses, tanks, sweaters, and shorts. Coming in a variety of blues, greens, and corals, each item is made for the young, carefree woman who simply loves being alive.
Yalerri
Pacy Kadio-Morokro fashions modern clothes with an ethnic flare. This enchanting collection makes traditional African fabrics accessible for any woman at any occasion. Embellished with lush golds and stunning sequins, no two pieces appear the same. With dramatic reds, greens, blues, and yellows, this collection inspires women throughout the globe to embrace life and the beauty of their culture.
Adha Zelma
Adha Zelma was formed by the collaboration between Sheanan Bond and Cherise Trahanmiller. Based in Brooklyn, these designers worked to create a jewelry line that truly embraced the female form, while simultaneously celebrating the magic of nature. Inspired by the picturesque sand dunes and clear blue waters, Adha Zelma is made from precious metals, gemstones, beads and exotic materials that are extremely fashion forward!
Evolve 45
Evolve 45 is a collection of fabulously designed, earth friendly handbags by Sara Marston. The idea behind the collection is that if everybody could reduce their consumption of materials, even by just forty-five degrees, then the contribution to the environment would be enormous. Each purse is manufactured from genuine Italian vegetable tanned leather and has an organic cotton lining. Evolve 45 is proof that it is possible to be green and feel gorgeous!
Bessi
Bessi by Carlos Zuniga is a men and women’s shoe collection that emphasizes the mix between minimalism and style. Zuniga shows his appreciation for simplicity by creating shoes that are unadorned and tastefully hip. The collection includes men’s sneakers in white leather and delicious brown suede, as well as black and nude colored pumps with metallic accents for the bold, independent woman.
Sempre Lei
Sempre Lei is a collection with a story to tell. Created in solid greens, pinks, blues, and grays, each garment includes a delicate border made of Ottoman lace, called an “oya,” which dates back to the 8th century in Anatolia, Turkey. During this time the women from Anatolia would express their emotions to those around them through the shapes and colors of the “oya” they wore. Each item in this collection is created with this history in mind and contains a carefully selected “oya” embodying the imagination and the dreams of the women who made it. Constructed from silk and cotton materials, the dresses in this collection are both timeless and versatile.
Tammam
Tammam is a charming women’s evening and bridal collection by London based designer Lucy Tammam. Crafted from vintage, organic silk fabrics, this collection is truly an exciting innovation in the eco-luxury market. By using materials that don’t harm the planet or the people who make them, Tammam makes it possible for real women to feel and look immaculate in these fabulous, sustainable pieces!
Vella Mode
This unique, handcrafted collection by Trecy Bleich could not be more breathtaking! Her combination of materials is extraordinary, and each item individually interesting. Inspired by natural textures, Bleich incorporates substances from all areas of the world. Recycled sea glass, metals, and edgy chains join forces to produce really magnificent and wearable jewelry.

NYFW Spring 2011: Cynthia Steffe, Vassilios Kostetsos, and Alice & Olivia

Cynthia Steffe
Cynthia Steffe presented a Spring 2011 Collection perfectly suited for everyday wear. Each garment was contemporary yet retro, giving traditional shapes a modern twist. Ranging from bright pinks, blues, and greens, to earthy browns, Steffe created pieces in eye catching hues, fit for nearly any occasion. Comprised of fabrics with a sleek, sporty feel, the clothing was casual, but still extremely fashion forward! While the collection included many menswear-inspired looks, the loose-fitting tops, cutout shoulders, and slit backs kept the clothing feeling very feminine.

Vassilios Kostetsos
Vassilios Kostetsos took the audience on an amazing adventure through ancient Greece with his dazzling Spring 2011 Collection. With Grecian prints, exaggerated shoulders, and armor-inspired pieces, this collection was made for the strong, audacious individual. The lustrous silk materials, intricate beading, and metallic colors gave the clothing a royal quality, making each garment really shine on the runway. Kostetsos showed a tendency towards figure hugging dresses with an emphasis on the shoulders and neckline, as well as long fluid trains. Even swimwear made an appearance in this collection that truly had it all!
Alice & Olivia
Prints, polka dots, glitter, and glam collide to create an uber-girlie fashion experience! With highwaisted bell bottoms and flapper-esque ensembles, Stacey Bendet takes you on a tour of decades past. The layering of patterns and textures is key in this funky collection. With extra emphasis on sparkles and beading, Bendet makes sure to keep each garment light with whimsical chiffon and bright accessories that really pop. This Spring 2011 Collection for Alice & Olivia is truly a fashion lovers paradise!

New York Fashion Week Spring 2011:The Glitz of Jenny Packham, the Organics of Toni Francesc and Lulu Frost’s Modern Pioneers

Jenny Packham
No stranger to the red carpet, Jenny Packham brought a new twist on old Hollywood glam at her Spring 2011 show. Sequins, shimmer, sparkle, and soft shades swayed down the catwalk, evoking opulent Grecian goddesses paying Earth a visit. Mere mortals with nary a paparazzi-flocked event to attend can nonetheless enjoy Packham’s creations. Her gowns were interspersed with gauzy jumpsuits and tailored trousers, perfect for when you want to make lunch with the girls an occasion.

Lulu Frost
Laid out like an exhibit at the Museum of Natural History, the models at the Lulu Frost Spring 2011 presentation were far from the dowdy, frantic-looking pioneers you envision hitching a ride west on the wagon. Instead, they channeled Christina Hendricks’ “Joan Holloway” on a Mad Men business trip to New Mexico. Turquoise meshed with pearls and Native American-inspired headpieces were given a contemporary feel with crystals and chains. Could designer Lisa Salzer set a trend if Sterling Cooper Draper Pryce opens an office out west?

Toni Francesc
Spanish designer Toni Francesc has translated the light and feel of the forest into an earthy, organic assembly that he fittingly called “Urban Forest”. Wooden jewelry that curved around necks and wrists like the bouts of a violin served as ideal accents to the ethereal, liquid dresses. Francesc concentrated on largelt natural colors such as beige, gray, and white, which he then infused with the brights – the blues, the yellows, and the corals — much like what nature will offer up in the spring.
