Support Breast Cancer and Check Out These Special-Edition Products!

This October beauty companies across the world are launching bold campaigns to bring awareness to breast cancer. Check out these amazing new products and help support this fantastic cause!

Arcona is introducing a limited editon pink version of their Magic White Ice; they are calling it Magic Pink Ice! This lightweight daily hydrating gel moisturizes without clogging the pores and keeps the skin fresh and glowing. For each bottle sold two dollars will go to support Cancer and Careers!

Thierry Mugler will be donating all the proceeds from the sale of the Womanity Bath and Body Collection to benefit Look Good Feel Better, a free support group that helps people with cancer improve their appearance and self-esteem so that they can manage their treatment and recovery with greater confidence. The collection includes perfumed shower gel, body milk, and body cream.

Lauren Merkin is partnering with the Young Survival Coalition to support Breast Cancer Awareness and together they have designed an exclusive edition of their popular Diana clutch. The clutch is made from a pink studded lambskin with Swarovski crystals and could not be more stunning!  Fifty percent of the proceeds from this bag will be donated to the YSC, a group that works with cancer survivors and communities to help increase the quality of life for young women diagnosed with breast cancer.

Polo Ralph Lauren will mark the 10th anniversary of the Pink Pony, the company’s global enterprise to raise awareness and fund in support of breast cancer. To kickoff the awareness campaign Polo Ralph Lauren will announce the first global Pink Pony Online Auction partnering with charitybuzz. The auction with showcase over two hundred unique items and experiences, and one hundred percent of the proceeds will go to the Pink Pony Fund of Polo Ralph Lauren. They will also be selling limited edition luxury pieces such as an alligator Ricky handbag, an alligator Cooper Check Book Wallet, an alligator cuff with Cooper Lock, and the Ralph Lauren Stirrup Timepiece, also benefiting the Pink Pony Fund. Also being launched this month is the “Text to Give” campaign that will allow everyone to join this worldwide initiative; by texting PINKPNY to 501501, ten dollars with be donated to benefit the Pink Pony Fund.

Tory Burch is definitely doing her part to help find a cure this month by donating fifteen percent from every purchase of her limited edition umbrella and rain boots. These fun accessories are so bright and delightful, the perfect thing for the start of fall!

London Fashion Week Spring 2011: Giles, Jaeger London and Vivienne Westwood Red Label

Giles

One word that will never be used to describe Giles Deacon’s Spring 2011 clothes is monochromatic. Patterns and prints like wild hibiscuses and 90s polka dots were in full effect, a tribute to London club spot the Milk Bar and its eclectic clientele. Most notable were the punchy knits by Sid Bryan. Bright pink and orange accented patterns were quite reminiscent of an Atari video game. With color, knits, and clean lines, there was great texture and dimension to Deacon’s already happily overflowing cup.

Vivienne Westwood Red Label

The radical was alive and kicking at Vivienne Westwood’s Red Label show. With political paraphernalia about an organization that represents death row and Guantanamo Bay inmates, and heart necklaces made to raise funds for the organization, Westwood’s politics seemed like a far cry from the easy, drapey dresses and relaxed plaids and stripes. Yet, the juxtaposition was just like those opposites attracting: this is what the privileged, dainty girl wears when she abandons her bourgeois roots to go out and save the world. Viva la revolución!

Jaeger London

There’s something to be said for clean, classic lines on wardrobe staples that Stuart Stockdale presented for spring 2011. It was a merging of two art worlds, fashion and actual art, as the designer said he was inspired by abstract artist Robyn Denny and the sculptor Rachel Whiteread. This was clearly evident in the incomparable form and structure, and the stark black and white palette with exclamations of blue, olive green, and peachy pink. From the corporate style maven to the elegant party girl, Jaeger London represented them all this season.

London Fashion Week Spring 2011: Antonio Berardi, Burberry Prorsum and Erdem

After curating the Victoria and Albert Museum’s “Diaghilev and the Golden Age of the Ballets Russes, 1909-1929“ exhibition, Erdem Moralioglu weaved the wispy ethereal nature of ballet costumes right through his collection. Fluid and supple as the movements of the dancers themselves, the lace appliqué and Macbethian red on mini dresses and billowing floral maxis will only ground the designer’s status as the crown prince of delicate details.

Burberry Prorsum

It’s an art to stray skillfully from the foundation of an established line while still having critics see the history and the connection. Christopher Bailey’s models were hardly the plaid-toting Charlotte Yorks that Thomas Burberry went on to acquire as a fan base. Studded biker pants and fitted jackets made for sexpot pieces that seemed stolen off the set of a 2011 remake of The Avengers. The turquoise belts and lime green bags brought the black pants and tan jackets to life. Color blocking just took on a whole new meaning.

Antonio Berardi

After seasons of body-conscious silhouettes, designer Antonio Berardi pumped up the volume – literally – on his Spring 2011 show and presented charming dresses that had a bit of an edge. Simple bell detailing on slightly voluminous 50s dresses and skirts had a dainty sweetness to them without being sickly sweet. Some unfinished hems brought the modern-fairy-tale quality a bit closer to earth, yet Berardi’s body con fans are never excluded. Elegant floor-length dresses with plunging necklines and daring slits will do the body good.

Naya Q&A with Designer Kasey Gibbs

You probably remember that I’ve mentioned Naya before, the a new shoe line with a conscious, creating fashionable, eco-friendly styles that considers everything down tot the packaging of its products. I had the pleasure of interviewing the brand’s designer Kasey Gibbs, to find out more about the process of creating eco-friendly shoes, the brand’s mission, and future goals.

Fashion Pulse Daily: What is your personal experience with being eco-friendly, and what is your past design experience that brought you to Naya?

Kasey Gibbs: Supporting products that are gentle on the earth has always been important to me. My husband and I both make purchasing decisions based on whether or not a product’s packaging is renewable and try to compost and recycle our own trash as much as possible. I also only drive hybrids and can be seen around town in my Ford Fusion or Escape. There are many easy changes that each person can make, whether it’s not purchasing eggs in styrofoam containers or using paper instead of plastic bags at the grocery store.

The footwear industry has been creating eco-friendly shoes that were great for hiking or sitting by the campfire, but Naya understands that women want eco-friendly footwear that fits into more aspects of their life. Women have a desire to help the environment but they also want to express their femininity and style. The home goods industry has been “doing it right” for a while now. From bamboo flooring and sustainable glass to all the recyclable products – they made me see that products could be eco-friendly while still being beautiful. Observing the positive progress of the home goods industry, I was really inspired by the idea that it could be possible in footwear.

This is my first experience designing for an eco-friendly brand, though I have many years of experience in footwear design.

FPD: What was your biggest challenge in creating this line?

KG: The most challenging part about designing eco-friendly shoes was the paradigm switch or change in thought process we went through with our sources. However, it has completely changed the way we think about making shoes. We feel this will eventually be a big change for the entire industry if the consumer makes the choice to buy more stylish, comfortable, eco-friendly products. We know women want to look good, feel good and do good for themselves and the environment.

FPD: Can you tell me some of the key eco-friendly materials in the design?

KG: Naya chooses natural and earth-friendly materials whenever possible, including: vegetable-tanned leathers and linings, fabrics made with natural or recycled materials, foot beds containing natural cork, outsoles made with recycled materials, water-based cements, boxes made with 80 percent recycled paper pulp, soy-based inks and water-based glue.

Naya also reduces consumption by using recycled shoeboxes, reusable shoe bags, shoe forms made with recycled PET (recycled soda bottles) and creating earth-friendly ways to deliver our message.

FPD: Which style are you most excited about for fall?

KG: I love the Bakula, which goes with all of my favorite fall work wear. For the evening, I love Narubi in every color. It is perfect to wear with skinny jeans, leggings and short skirts. It’s so versatile it can be worn with the cuff down or up for that over-the-knee look that is so on trend for this fall.

FPD: I’d love to learn more about the process: finding these materials, manufacturing the shoes, what it was like producing eco-friendly shoes on a larger scale.

KG: Naya uses recycled content fabrics and boxes made with 80 percent recycled paper pulp. Naya shoes with a wedge heel are made from cork and recycled TPR, a material similar to rubber. Naya is also utilizing bamboo and leawood in many of our heels. Additionally, Naya utilizes scrap leather for linings which are part of Naya’s comfort promise, as they make the shoes feel smooth on the foot.

At Naya, our mission is to leave a gentler footprint on the planet and make eco-friendly choices wherever we can. Currently, we are making great strides in the use of eco-friendly materials and design elements, and this makes Naya’s overall carbon footprint smaller.

FPD: Ultimately, what would you like to achieve with Naya?

KG: We’re really pleased with the progress we have made so far as the first eco-friendly shoe line under Brown Shoe Company, Inc. We see this as a journey, with Naya as the first step. We’ve made a lot of progress in finding earth-friendly materials and components and we’re excited about the changes and our ability to make them affordable for women. We hope to generate as much awareness as possible about the importance of softening your global footprint.

FPD: For 2011, what can we look forward to? Will mens or other accessories be added to Naya?

We’re always looking for new earth-friendly initiatives that are important to Naya customers.. During April 2010, Naya partnered with Plant It 2020 for the 40th anniversary of Earth Day. For every pair of Naya Shoes bought on shoes.com, a tree was planted. We met our goal of planting more than 5,000 trees in one month.

This fall we are launching a campaign called Renew Your Soles, in which women can return gently worn pairs of shoes to be donated to people in need or if the shoes are at the end of their lifetime they will be recycled. We will provide you more information on this campaign as soon as possible.

We are interested in expanding the Naya brand in the future, but for now, we are focusing solely on creating the highest quality earth-friendly footwear for women.
