The music at fashion week shows not only sets the tone for the collection, but almost equally as important is that it can get the sleep-deprived editors/buyers/stylists tapping their stiletto-ed heels to the beat, creating a fond, memorable experience for a show that otherwise can blur in with the other 60+ collections seen in a week! We’ve pulled together some of our favorite songs, artists, and live pefromances during the S/S 2009 collections:
- Cowboy Junkies (Live Performance)– Ports 1961
- Seu George (Live Performance) — Carlos Miele
- Edith Piaf — Louis Vuitton
- Madonna (Borderline) — Balmain
- Hooverphonic — Rock & Republc

As mentioned in an earlier post, Jack Mackenroth of Project Runway, Season 4 has designed the closing wedding gown, made out of 4000-5000 condom wrappers for Project Inform — a Condom Fashion Show to benefit HIV/AIDS Advocacy. Prepare for a night of cocktails, culinary treats, music, a live auction, and the one-of-a-kind Condom Couture Fashion Show showcasing local and national designers’ fall collections — along with Jack’s condom creation of course! The designer gave us a sneak peak of what’s in store, including
his ornate headdress that will make you do a double-take – how much fun is it that a wedding dress and headdress is made out of condom wrappers!?!?!
The event will take place at Intercontinental Hotel, San Francisco from 6–10pm on October 15th, and tickets are still available! Individual tickets are $150, sponsor packages start at $500, and a table of ten costs $1,500. All of the proceeds go toward advocacy and HIV treatment information programs which have been helping those affected by the disease for 23 years. For more info and to buy tickets, visit JackMackenroth.com or ProjectInform.org.

- Lanvin S/S 2009 Collection
Alber Elbaz elevated the theme of the classic college toga party to the realm of high fashion in his Spring collection for Lanvin, by taking the look of a messy twisted and tied sheet and reinventing it as perfectly draped, one shoulder dresses in colorful stain and chiffon fabric. Nothing in this collection was simple, yet nothing was over the top either. The draping of these pieces, along with ruching, ballooned sleeves and hourglass waists (similar to Calvin Klein’s abstract collection), as well as the contrasting colors decorated and updated ordinary styles like the little black dress.

- Hermès S/S 2009 Collection
Originally, us trendy New York fashionistas thought cowboy hats and fringe belonged solely as a Halloween costume, or on our mid-west cousin Sally. However, the minute we saw veterans Stephanie Seymour and Naomi Campbell walk down the cactus strewn runway in Jean-Paul Gaultier’s Wild West creations, we couldn’t help but fall in love. As only Hermès could achieve with this theme, there was nothing tacky or cliché about the collection. Models donning black cowboy hats and riding gloves, and dark aviators looked like chic bandits ready to rob a bank or win a shootout. Even in a delicate and revealing red gown, Naomi Campbell looked fierce enough to intimidate any tough wrangler. We were drooling over the fringed Birkin and signature Hermès suitcases in snakeskin and zebra prints that helped add a dose of Parisian chic to this wild rodeo show.
