[Kayne West’s girlfriend Amber Rose modeled some of the looks]

Sergio Guadarrama’s collection offered an evocative amalgam of styles, materials and colors for the spring 2010 season. Blending a certain glamour of ‘days gone by’ (in part through his use of color – a wash of pale yellows and grays, as well as turquoise and pink, conjuring up the sepia tones of an antique photo) with that of sophisticated contemporary high fashion, the collection intermingled shiny satins and silks with lace and wool to produce a result which was at once beautiful and accessible. Wearable items ranged from business to nightlife, managing at once to be both sexy and stylish. Although the collection emphasized the empire and high-waist style in fitted cocktail dresses and flowing evening dresses, as well as in pants, it managed to maintain a sense of freshness and variety nonetheless.

Stephen Burrows
Amazing draping of knits and wovens alike, lettuce-like edges, and utter sophistication it was classic miStephen Burrows at his best, reminding us that the fashion playingdd field is quite ripe with talent that has been decades in the making.

MEW Japan
Another highlight of fashion week; I went into the show knowing next to nothing about the brand, and came out of the presentation so glad to have stopped by; the delicate prints, incredible cuts, and great styling (neon yellow belt!) made this collection the sleeper hit of fashion week.

Philosophy di Alberta Ferretti
Lightness, whimsy, and some 70s inspiration ruled the day at Ferretti-she wasn’t afraid to use bright blocks of colors, oversized photos of lips, and filmy fabrics for the spring.

Taking the audience’s breath away at the Edition Georges Chakra Spring 2010 show were beautiful cut-out shoulder designs on impeccably form-fitting dresses. Adding a much needed zest to the plain silhouette, Chakra sculpted his dresses with plunging backs and sharp shoulder cut outs embellished with Swarovski crystals. The collection was clearly exuberant femininity, with a color palette stretching from pastels to vibrant red to metallic and finally the ever-chic black. All in all, Chakra’s spring collection is full of pieces that every woman has always wanted in their closet, waiting for that special occasion.
