J. Sabatino‘s collection this season is nostalgic for the old ‘Frank Sinatra New York,’ remaking the magical thrift-style fashion inherent in the streets when Soho was still described as sketchy. His F/W 2010 line is a manifestation of the characters he admired on his first trips to New York City during his youth, saturated with rich materials like wool , denim and cashmere, tailored to suit the hip city lad. Trousers were pressed and cuffed to reveal warm-toned socks and each look was topped off with either a hat or a pair of retro style sunglasses.

Stephen Burrows started with sharp, bright colors: a yellow top, creamy prints, lime green tights. Whether it’s the printed skirts or the elegant silk tops, drapery eased its way into the collection. Terrified of the winter chill but eager to sport something more elaborate than a hoodie? Try Stephen’s hooded wrap tops, printed, draped, brightly-colored – weather, check; style, check. From the fun and fancy, he progressed to the tough and athletic, displaying pants with knee caps, sporty jackets and a cropped jacket with voided shoulders. From knits, prints, silk tops to funky accessories, the collection certainly showed Stephen’s range and fashion industry experience.

We all have our plain T-shirts — a plain jersey tee whipped up from the sales rack, a volunteer tee for an event, a practical gift, a layering piece – and we all need whoa-inducing pieces to go with them. Introducing Forever 21’s Printed Skirt w/ Belt for $11.50, a trophy of bold style, also an office-ready stunner of appropriate length. Tuck a plain T-shirt into the skirt, add a statement necklace, and accentuate your waist with the faux leather skinny belt (or replace with one of your own) to let the skirt take center stage. With its color contrast and abstract pattern, your look will head from simple to va va voom in seconds.
