Inspired by a recent discussion by L.L. Bean’s creative director Alex Carleton as well as the Linda Grant exclusive q&a and reading of her latest book, The Thoughtful Dresser, I started to think about my obsession with my clothing/accessories possessions, and why it’s so hard for me to purge my closets and get rid of things. As part of the Sorrelli earrings giveaway, I asked you about your most sentimental jewelry items, and am really touched by the responses. I definitely attach a strong sentimental element to items, and probably won’t be able to shed any of the items in the pics below: this was taken a few weeks ago while I was in Italy, on my birthday, and I went to the beaches at Lido (an island about 30 minutes from Venice) with my two close friends. The sun was shining, it was a fantastic day, as was my trip overall (and I bought that hat on my bday). I digress, but basically was thinking of the idea that every item you own, in some sense holds memories, good and bad. Even that top I got from Forever 21 was purchased to wear during New York Fashion Week, Continue reading…

Illustrate This: Versace Resort 2010
Fashion Pulse Daily is honored to present a new collaborative series, “Illustrate This,” in which multi-talented artist and illustrator Molly Schafer takes imagery from the fashion and beauty worlds and interprets them anew with her keen eye and swift hand. For the first installation of the series, Molly has taken one of the looks from Versace‘s resort 2010 collection to illustrate in a manner that compliments the look (see below for more looks, unillustrated, from the collection).
For resort 2010, Donatella Versace perfectly executed some of the best micro prints ever seen in a palette of dominantly purple, orange, and/or white in a succinct, well-edited collection rife with pieces that push the brand in a bright new direction. The prints, interesting detailing like noticeable piping, and construction can be considered fitted yet well-tailored, and for the most part, signature Versace styling with superfluous lace-up sandals that also mimicked the tiny polka-dot designs.

Molly says, “The prints on the dress remind me of old video arcade games. I used elements from these games as inspiration for the design.”
About the artist: Molly Schafer is an artist and illustrator living in Chicago. Her illustrations have recently appeared in Annalemma, Kong magazine, and on the Center for Biological Diversity’s Endangered Species Condoms. Schafer’s art has been exhibited at Exit Art, artpoint Miami, Branch Gallery, Lump Gallery, Space 1026, The Andy Warhol Museum, The Corcoran Gallery of Art and at Lollapalooza 2007.Schafer is also co-founder of The Endangered Species Print Project, an art & conservation project selling limited edition art prints to support limited populations.

Vintage House Caroli Launches a New Eco-Inspired Lingerie Line
Now that you know where to find eco chic staples, it’s time to get the silk and satin lovelies that are just as eco conscious, to wear beneath them. Italian vintage house Caroli has a new line of lingerie called A.N.G.E.L.O, and designer Karine Leclere takes repurposed vintage fabrics and adds touches of feminine detail: sexy floral patterns, polka dots and flirty cotton trimmings. The one-of-a-kind burlesque-inspired pieces would make Dita Von Teese want to crack a whip! The purpose of the collection is to promote secondhand clothes as a sustainable source of materials for the fashion industry. but of course adding some incredible reworking and the signature Italian touch. Available next summer and starting at around $45, you can buy your own little slice of Italian heaven at Angelo Vintage Palace in Lugo, Italy, or make queries online at angelo@angelo.it

Threadless & Havaianas: A Fab Collab You Won’t Want to Miss!
Havaianas, the fabulous flip-flops (that I have at least three pairs of, btw), has joined forces with Threadless.com, the online community-based t-shirt company, to create a collection of limited edition sandals for summer 2010. The project officially launched in mid-July with six designs from original artwork submitted and voted on by the Threadless community. Using the ever-increasingly popular method of crowdsourcing, Threadless received over 600 design submissions from designers around the world with the winning artists being: Farhan Hassan from Singapore, Alvaro Arteaga Sabaini from Chile, Josh Perkins from Arizona, Jess Fink from New York, Ross Zietz from Chicago, and Emmy Cicierega from Massachusetts to form the complete limited edition collection. The way the designs translate from the tees to the body of the flip-flop just looks so artistic and cool – I received a pair of Farhan’s designs, and just love them! Which one is your favorite? You can buy the tee or the flip-flop (or both!): check out all the designs here.
