Mulberry: with carousels and carnival-like amusement fare on the mind, Mulberry displayed a luxe collection of clothing and accessories amongst beautifully painted carousel horses this season. It’s interesting to see the evolution of a house from key accessories to an entire lifestyle brand. The clothes and bags were definitely in competition with each other for center-stage –which do you think won?

Temperley: The likes of the circus, carnival, and all things under the big top proved to be inspiration for many designers this season, as we saw the trend continue at Temperley. We appreciated the arrangement of the mannequins that seemed a bit more lively than other presentations we’ve seen, and the original video installation with Spring 2010’s looks was an added treat. Despite the theme which could have gone to the costumey side, these pieces will prove to be wearable, in particular the black and white pieces.

Tibi (Backstage pics): One of our favorites every season, Tibi’s Amy Smilovic lived up to her reputation of amazing prints and ethereal, feminine frocks. One of the most calm backstage visits we’ve had in ages, we can only wonder if the clothes somehow miraculously channeled their calm, cool aesthetic into the pre-runway preparations….

Full of bright colors and bold prints, this collection wasn’t suppressed by the wearing moods of the recession. Within this return to luxury, there were at least five opulent purple dresses, each unique with over-sized puff sleeves or large sequin detailing or wave-like draping, which marked marked a turning point in fashion this season. No longer will we surround ourselves in drab monotones and minimalism to the point of boring; black and brown aren’t colors to live a life in, so take instead the colors pieced together in this Spring 2010 collection. The pinnacle of the lavish motif was the show’s final look; a massive navy tulle gown plastered with crystals across the chest, in glorified feminine style.
But what we cannot forget about Oscar de la Renta are his accessories. Creating handbags, shoes, and belts, is nothing new to Oscar, however the new ground this year is his fashion jewelry line. Tapping into his Dominican heritage, many of the necklaces were very ethnic with braided silk and bright colors like melon and peridot, but there were also some classic gold pieces sprinkled throughout the runway that any woman could easily wear.

Yearning for an ultra high-fashion piece to add to your closet this fall? Look no further than Forever 21’s Urban Shag Vest, $27.80. With its super light exterior and self-tie front closure, this vest is the perfect cover up if you’re aiming to bring a burst of animal magnetism to an outfit. Use it to bring to spice up a pair of skinny jeans or add a shaggy edge by wearing it layered over a simple dress; either way you’ll be surprised by how much wear you’ll get out of this statement piece.
