yoana baraschi holiday 2011

December 1, 2011

Dress for Holiday 2011 with Yoana Baraschi

by Julia DiNardo

Dressing when the weather turns cold can be challenging enough, but throw in the hassle of traveling, work/holiday party social situation negotiations, and spending time with the significant other’s family, and you’ve got yourself another whole list of prep and shopping to you! Luckily we have some tips, items, and style guidance from the extremely talented Yoana Baraschi, one of our favorite designer go-tos for ultra-chic dresses that are always cool and sophisticated, with great detailing, unexpected prints (have you seen the Martini Hour Dress?!? AMAZING!), and impeccable tailoring. We asked Yoana what to wear in three different settings with pieces from her eponymous collection, and each time, she put together a stylish set of options with styling tips to boot!

FPD: What to wear: to the airport for holiday travel?

YB: Style should never be second to comfort. My Film Noir Leggings ($229) show the two can go hand-in-hand: they are super-soft leggings, with cool leather details that add length to the legs, and gold zipper pockets that give them some polish. Pair them with a cashmere sweater, and for a super-luxe plane trip, I’d add my Faux Wolf Arctic Vest ($410).

FPD: What to wear: to a holiday cocktail party?

YB: I love uber-embellished garments because they’re great conversation pieces for cocktail parties. My King Cobra Sleeved Dress ($411), for example, was inspired by my pet snake, Snake, and has an amazing sequin snake slithering up this sexy silk-crepe tunic. My Virtual Grid Sequined Dress ($434) has a gorgeous grid of gold and black sequins that is my interpretation of holiday plaid. You put on one of those dresses with strappy sandals and you’re done. I also did tops in those same motifs that are killer with leather leggings: the King Cobra Kimono Top ($319) and the Virtual Grid Sequined T-Shirt ($250).

FPD: What to wear: to dinner at the in-laws/significant other’s?

YB: My Lace Dot Party Frock ($480) has a super-flattering silhouette with a neckline that’s not too low—and it has a little leather and vintage-inspired lace so you don’t have to compromise on your style. Similarly, my Faux Grid Ombre Shift Dress ($365) has this super-cool print, but has cap sleeves and hits right above the knee for a really elegant silhouette.

Thanks so much Yoana, and here’s to looking fabulous this holiday season!
