Show Yourself Some Love This Valentine’s Day (CollegeCandy Guest Post)

For us single girls, Valentine’s Day can seriously suck. Even if you love being single, all the PDA (puke), listening to what your coupled friend’s boyfriend did or (more likely) didn’t buy them, and the concerned phone call from your mom checking up on you, gets real old, real fast. And, for the love of god, if one more coupled friend tells me I’ll “find someone soon,” I’m going to scream.

Vibrators – It’s 2010, baby. You don’t need a boyfriend (or anyone, really) to have a good time.  These bullet buddies, available at Babeland, are a discrete, non-threatening first-time toy for any girl.  And if you’re looking for something a little more…er… well endowed, Babeland has a large selection of toys for everyone.

Indulgent Fashion Item – Which would you rather have on Valentine’s Day: boyfriend drama or a fabulous and functional L.A.M.B. wristlet?  Your attached friends will most definitely be laying out the cash for their S.O., so it’s time you splurge on the number one in your life: you.

Hot Dress – The best way for any girl to feel better about herself is to look hot. The second best way is to look hot and hit the town. You can do both in this adorable, blue, ruffled mini-dress from Forever 21. I guarantee this will turn heads and, who knows, you may even score yourself a Valentine for 2011.

Jewels – I’m a true believer in buying jewelry for yourself.  There are many benefits: 1. You know you’ll wear it, and 3. It is timeless (if you bought it, it won’t forever be known as something “what’s his name” bought you).  So all the single ladies, don’t wait for a guy to put a ring on it; go and buy your own damn ring.

Robert Verdi Brings Serious Style to Valentine’s Day

Holidays with expectations are always difficult. Take Christmas for example.  Birthdays, New Years — they all get grouped into the ‘what should I get so and so, what should I wear, what are the plans, who’s driving’ etc. Sorry to say it, but the approaching Valentine’s Day is also one of those days chock full of expectations, regardless if you are single, or have a significant other. Valentine’s Day is tricky, because it is a sensitive celebration; it’s supposed to be so personal, which goes hand-in-hand with being thoughtful and to a certain extent, creative. This, I must admit that I enjoyed sitting back and letting Robert Verdi and the Accessories Council do the work for me! At his most recent ‘Tweet This’ event, Robert gave somme thoughtful date ideas and suggestions, while providing his product picks to boot. Some of my favorite Robert Verdi date suggestions were:

  • $50 date idea (although I think this could definitely be way cheaper): Classic Date – dinner from the local pizzeria and the current chick flick. (Fashion Pulse Daily’s thoughts: this works for those of use dateless on February 14th too!)
  • Place a single piece of chocolate in all of her usual places in the morning of Valentine’s to make her ordinary moments special – by her jewelry on the dresser, inside the medicine cabinet, and next to her coffee cup in the kitchen (FPD’s thoughts: I think this could work with other things than chocolate; a simple note that says ‘I love you’ will also suffice!)
  • Invite your date over for a pre-dinner drink but instead of going out, surprise them with their favorite meal by candle-light in an unusual part of your home – coffee table, terrace, or even the bedroom (FPD thoughts: candle lit dinners will never by overrated in our book, plus what a fun idea to eat in an ‘abnormal place’; just make sure you have a tray to bus the dishes and leftovers out of there)

Some of Robert’s gift suggestions included: watches for him and her, Rebecca Cole Grows blooms (very cool, see pic), Godiva chocolate, Swarovski Crystallized Charm Bracelet (FPD will be giving one away!), a Cole Haan patent leather jewelry case, and my personal favorite, Diane von Furstenberg cat eye sunglasses.

With these accessories and Robert’s tips, you’re sure to definitely set the bar high, but after all, who really needs expectations anyways?
