Fall’s Patterns and Prints: Pretty, Provocative, and Perfect

Patterns and prints can feel so timeless, while also feeling fresh at the same time. Each season new interpretations of the hottest prints are showcased on the runway. Following are the most on-trend, favorite prints for Fall 2011 that we can’t wait to wear!

1. Plaid – The classic school uniform print has gone from good girl to edgy. Plaid can be oh-so chic on and off the runway. Seen on scarves, bags, pants, ponchos and more, this pattern is always appropriate for fall weather.

2. Polka Dot – A “spot-on” trend right now, polka dots are DEFINITELY making a fashion-forward statement. Marc Jacobs set the tone with his head to toe dotted looks, however for a more realistic approach try micro dot polka dot tights, a sheer polka dot blouse, or even a blazer. Devoted to creating dresses that flatter every woman, David Meister’s F/W 2010 collection exudes appeal, rich with texture and diverse shapes. His day frocks embody the menswear-for-women aesthetic, comprised of knit and tweed with surprising details on the simple and classic designs. The Bergdorf Signature line is more formal in function and appearance, taking a ball gown shape glammed up with silver accents and fitted bodices that give any woman seductive curves. His evening looks consist of asymmetrical cocktail dresses and strapless gowns. David Meister takes comfort into consideration when creating the collection and, accordingly, his looks are 90% stretch and knit. MILAN FASHION WEEK: Prada Fall/Winter 2010 Collection

The Italian winter must be colder than we thought, for Prada’s F/W Collection was thick with billowing layers of knit, wool stockings, fur-lined leather and dark tweed. Twirl-begging A-line dresses donned frills and prints while mustard yellow, tan, and geometric patterns updated a 70’s aesthetic with pointed-rim glasses. Prim and proper Prada was (with a naturally quirky edge), emphasized by slick and simple high-styled chignons.
