For Spring/Summer 2012, the London based Greek designer Sophia Kokosalaki drew on her heritage to craft an ethically conscious collection, available exclusively at ASOS.com. The lineup gives life to a certain pure sensuality, while maintaining a youthful feel.

Even more inspiring, the brand’s pivotal focus is the empowerment of young women via social responsibility. This ethical commitment is established in a long-term relationship with a community cooperative workshop in Sri Lanka, where all of the hand crafted lace trim is produced, providing a consistent income for the all-female local team.

You’re sure to swoon over the stunning drapery and the hand-crafted lace folded in and out of each design. The power orange halter dress is simply divine (we can’t get enough of this color this season), and also the silk pants feel fresh and visionary. Alberta Ferretti for Impulse

In an astonishing collection of 24 pieces, Alberta Ferretti for Impulse (at Macy’s), a limited edition capsule collection, is as ladylike as it is sensual. The light, summer clothing is designed for the strong, seductive woman as evidenced in the ad campaign. The ads feature an Italian woman against the stunning backdrop of Positano. Bohemian flairs are coupled with garden party fashions, heavily influenced by Ferretti’s Italian heritage.

Oranges, pinks, and teals are offset by more refined whites and tans, with the standout pieces certainly being the dresses. Whether you prefer maxi or mini, you’ll vibe with the beautiful options, and perhaps even struggle to pick one.

Alberta Ferretti for Impulse will launch April 17th, 2012 in 185 stores Macy’s nationwide and at Macys.com.

Dana Maxx for SS12: A Female Powerhouse

It’s not every day that one gets to sit down to a one-on-one with a strong, innovative female designer and pick her effortlessly cool brain. Lucky for us at FPD, we had the opportunity to meet Dana-Maxx Pomerantz, a recent winner of Polyvore and FIT’s Emerging Designer Series Contest. The contemporary ready-to-wear designer understands fearless fashion and the feeling of certainty that jibes when clothing is simply put, meticulously you.

Dana-Maxx’s Spring 2012 collection was inspired by Barcelona, a city known for its individuality and its unabridged physical beauty. She combined architecture and striking “juicy, yummy” colors to create a line as full of history and cultural descent as the city itself.

With a strong focus on day dresses and other no bother pieces, the brand fills a (serious) void for women’s easy, citified workwear. Architectural necklines and geometric shapes give strength to an otherwise relaxed collection.

“I love designing clothing that let women feel strong, vibrant and fearless in when they wear the clothing,” the designer explains. “Also, this sort of no fuss attitude; women want a lot of bang for their buck today…. (they want) easy, effortless pieces that are unique but can transition into various seasons.”
