Levi’s SS12 Collection Preview Calls for Sustainability Above All Else

Levi’s Spring/Summer 2012 Water, Earth, and Wind Campaign harks back to classical elements, elements that all speak the same language.

At the collection preview, beyond the season’s latest clothing, we also received a message of sustainability and renewal. Levi’s continues to drive profit through solid principles; the brand alone has saved 156 million liters of water around the world, or 60 million days of drinking water for communities in need, simply by producing “Waterless” jeans.

Now back to the clothes:Denim at Levi’s for the new season was mainly skinny; a tapered straight leg, but there were still some flares on occasion. Beyond the denim (blue and colored) there were crafty, effortless dresses, vibrant shorts and cropped tops for the girls.

My favorite jean is the Curve ID (find your perfect fit here), a concept that celebrates fit by addressing a diverse range of body types. The fits include Slight, Demi, Bold, Supreme and Ankle Skinny. The final, Ankle Skinny, is the newest innovation in Curve ID with a hip shorter length.

Copenhagen Fashion Week Part I: Minimarket, Henrik Vibskov & Wood Wood

Minimarket

Inspired by voodoo and superstition, Minimarket presented an eclectic collection comprised of strong cuts playing tribute to the female shape. Elaborate hair ornaments made of straw, leaves, wood and feathers underscored the allusion to dark arts. Comprised of semi-geometric patterns and solids, the looks adhere to different shades of a trio: apricot, aqua and blue, accented by either cayenne or black. Accessorized with John Lennon sunglasses and two meter long necklaces, the three Swedish designers behind the brand managed to produce my favorite collection of the week.

Henrik Vibskov

Held at the eerie pedestrian bridge in a very dark Copenhagen park, the last show of the evening was worth the wait. Adorned with a thick black fabric wrapped from crown to chin paired with opaque goggles, models plodded down the make-shift wooden planks in simple-yet-dynamic garments. Maintaining his eccentric reputation, Vibskov sent a wooden sailboat down the opposite end of the runway, creating an unfortunate distraction to the otherwise strong collection.

Wood Wood

Soaked in H2O and rocking tangled knots with the odd fabric weaved braid, models sauntered the through the numerous rooms hosting this season’s show with a jaded attitude to match the utility-inspired garments.  Kiss-printed dress shirts and graphic A-line skirts and shorts ran throughout this light-hearted collection, while the backpack adorned many backsides, proving the practical accessory is here to stay.

Budget Stylista: Tailored Shorts, Two Ways (CollegeCandy Guest Post)

Windows are up, shades are on, legs are tanned (hopefully) and it’s time to whip out the shorts for the summer.  But don’t worry, just because your sweats are going in storage doesn’t mean you have to spend your life savings on shorts to beat the heat.  Buy one pair of tailored, cuffed, lightweight dark denim shorts, and you can dress them up, down and all around.  Take these adorable pair from Forever 21, for example, and check out a few ways to style them:

If you’re feeling like a rock star and want to go casual glam, here’s how.  Pair these shorts with a graphic tee with an edgy print.  In case of blasting air conditioning, throw on a lightweight cardigan over top.  To complete any rock star outfit, splashes of leather and metallics are a must.  The leather bow cuff pictured is the perfect compliment to a chunky gold necklace.  Of course, a studded hobo ties the look together.  You can either pair it with a matching metallic gladiator or a trendy fabric sandal.

Same shorts, different vibe.  Get this girly girl look by pairing your shorts with a lace top; exaggerated sleeves like these always give extra feminine flair.  To show off your womanly curves, tuck in your blouse and finish the look with a wide belt.  On a sunny day, oversized sunglasses in an unexpected shape add fun to any outfit.  As they will be the focal point of your accessories, you only need minimal jewelry to look put together without going overboard.  A unique rhinestone ring is perfect to do so.  A ballet flat (especially with ruffles) gives off a sweet vibe.  Add a splash of color with this lime green clutch (don’t forget your pink lipstick inside).  You can also pin back one side of your hair with a pearl-based clip to give you the ultimate classy look.
