Beauty Lessons: How to Safely Remove False Lashes

False lashes are a miracle for those of us who are not naturally blessed with doll like lashes (myself included), because they are the fastest way to instantly add volume and length to your lashes and open up your eyes. Since they don’t last forever and need to eventually be removed, if not done properly this can lead to unwanted damage. When you simply strip them off your lids, chances are you are also pulling a few of your own lashes as well, not to mention causing some abrasive wear and tear on the gentle skin of your lids. This creates premature sagging in the eye area as well as loss and damage to your natural lashes which take eight weeks to grow back.

This simple method, however, will teach you how to gently remove false eyelashes, while keeping them intact so that you can use them time after time.

For Removal:

Step 1: Place a small amount of eye makeup remover on a cotton swab. As an alternative to eye makeup remover, you can use extra virgin olive oil, coconut oil or baby oil (just use in moderation; you don’t want any getting into your eye!).

Step 2: Dab and swipe the remover along the lash bone of your falsies on your lids. Use a cotton swab, as opposed to rubbing a cotton ball, to help maintain the shape of your falsies.

Step 3: Allow the makeup remover (or oil) to sit on your lids for a few minutes, then gently pull off the false eyelashes with tweezers once the glue has softened. To remove any leftover glue on your lids, dampen a cotton ball with remover and gently wipe away any glue residue.

To Clean:

Step 1: Put your lashes in a clean cup, and pour in a small amount of eye makeup remover.

Step 2: Let your lashes soak in your eye makeup remover for a few minutes.

Step 3: Take your falsies out of the container, and while holding where the lash hairs are, gently pull off the glue on the lash bone using a pair of tweezers.

Step 4: Let your lashes dry on top of a clean tissue and replace them in their container. This little soak will help extend the life of your falsies so you won’t have to replace them after a few uses.
