Fitting right in with the ever-dominant long and oversized silhouettes that have taken over the runways this New York Fashion Week, is the statement making bell sleeve. The return of the ’70s has been a long time in the works, and this particular sleeve trend is arriving at a time after the renewed popularity of other ’70s staples such as the wide leg pant, fringe embellishments, and beige suede jackets. This particular aesthetic has allowed designers to draw attention to certain pieces, while still staying true to the overall vision of their collections. Jill Stuart took on this silhouette with a very 70’s rock inspired and bohemian influenced look, while À MOI’s Alejandra Alonso focused mainly on geometric shapes.
Others were strongly inspired by current street style, like Nicopanda‘s messy grunge approach. Both Georgine and Öhlin/D brought a more bohemian and romantic feeling to their runways, incorporating lace and ruffles into their take on the trend. Click through the slideshow to see how others interpreted the bell sleeve for fall 2016, that will surely be incorporated into fall and even summer of 2016.

Eveningwear is MEANT for the runway, and is truly showcased in its true form by being able to witness it move and glimmer on the body. This season, it was quite clear to me that three major trends in eveningwear were unfolding: all-over metallic, vibrant red, and heavy, heavy embellishment.
Walk with me through some of the fabulous pieces that represent the trend, with some combining several of them into one garment. It was also lovely to see longer sleeve lengths on gowns, making the distinction that the fall/winter season can be a bit on the chilly side, and looking ravishingly soigné can mean not having to have the pashmina in tow.
Let’s see if the premier red carpet event, this year’s Oscars, pay homage to these trends…we have a feeling that they certainly will!
METALLIC:

Naeem Khan‘s 1920s inspired collection turned nostalgia into something very fresh and modern, with all over metallic detailing in this three-quarter length number.

Gathering some medieval inspiration, Carmen Marc Valvo, didn’t go literally in that direction, and instead used metallic, that had an almost foil-like appearance to bring opulence to the source.

Although the gold represented Diane von Furstenberg‘s 40th anniversary, she wouldn’t have put out a handful of gold cocktail dresses unless she flelt they were absolutely au courant, like this stunner worn by Karlie Kloss.

You’ve seen all our favorites for spring 2013 in womenswear, but what about for menswear? We promise not to neglect what will be big for men, come spring, and we have pulled a distinct selection of looks that compiles everything from top notch suits to tried-and-true casual staples, like t-shirts. The use of color for 2013 will be huge, as well as accessorizing with scarves. Without further ado, we present the best of spring 2013, for the fashion aware dude.
1. J.Crew – This collection (above) would make Crayola proud. Color blocked polos, striped rugby sweaters, and lilac shorts and the return of cuffed pants. But, it was the Japanese chambray and navy pinstriped suit that really lined up right. This is the one stop shop for the American male 9-5 wardrobe (with the occasional after hours.)

2. Joseph Abboud – The same textures and lines that made for strong womenswear have shifted to menswear as well. Bombers have proved to be a necessary commodity for both dress up and dress down. Yet, it was an ode to old glamour that made the most sense in Abboud’s collection; classic pieces like ivory sports coats and lightweight sweaters have us yearning (already) for summer Fridays.

Get dressed, layer up, and then do it all over again. That’s how Rebecca Taylor did it, and it was spot on chic. Pleated blouses were paired with onyx shearling hooded vests, herringbone coats covered leather bomber jackets, fringe sweaters fell over printed dresses…and it all looked flawless. The “wow-factor” came in via glitter, beads, velvet and leather pieced or charcoal nail head leggings. We will fantasize about those leggings until they’re in our closet, and then we’ll rock them, Rebecca Taylor style, with mini skirts and dresses on top. Beyond fashion, let’s just say we’ll all be imitating that undone beautiful fishtail braid the models rocked hard.

Rebecca Minkoff
I’m obsessed with Rebecca Minkoff’s inspiration—a girl with moxie—but the obsession doesn’t stop there. How about the way she knows just how to glorify the modern woman by empowering her independence? Represented through bold jewel tones and menswear inspired pieces, Minkoff paired courageous ancestral prints and brocade touches to create confident looks. The pants and trousers were utterly to die for, as were the jackets and coats. Blanket coats, lamb bombers, overcoats and tweeds will be topping everyone’s lists for Fall 2012.
