London Fashion Week, generally speaking, took a slightly more gentle approach on the runway for spring 2018, compared to New York’s maximalist, brightly-colored collections from the previous week. Many trends aired on the side of dainty and romantic, and many designers kept the color palette reserved to pastel hues. One major breakout trend was the heavy use of ruffles, whether it be in a bold, daring look, or found within a classic, ultra-feminine dress. Designers like Christopher Kane, David Koma, and Molly Goddard all incorporated the trend into their most recent collections, each with a unique twist.

The most recent offering by Ashish was inspired by a gloomy, dark mood, that has encapsulated the designer in recent months, as well as the recent eclipse. Pieces featured phrases like “Good Mourning,” and “Rest in Peace,” and the collection included ruffled gowns in sequin detailing. David Koma‘s spring 2018 show was inspired by athletic wear, and fell more on the bold side with the inclusion of a black leather mini-dress and a statement ruffle detail.

Just as fall is about to begin, New York Fashion Week is taking us past the colder seasons and right into Spring/Summer 2017. There are still plenty of shows to come, but key trends for the next summer season are already making themselves known. Long, effortless silhouettes, eccentric prints, and monochromatic looks all make the list, but many designers are choosing to showcase one of the most classic, and uber-girly trends of them all: ruffles. Jill Stuart took a well-fitting, subtle and modern approach in her most recent collection, showing her signature black and white looks with complementing ruffle detailing. Contrasting that was found in Brock Collection, whose use of bold ruffle detailing on the slits of midi skirts made a huge statement on the runway.

Creatures of Comfort and Marissa Webb went with perhaps the most attractive route to this trend seen thus far, and chose to incorporate smaller ruffles into blouses and breezy sundresses. Ruffles played a key role in Webb’s collection, who reiterated before her show that she aims to dress the New York, modern, feminine woman. Click through the slideshow above to see more of how this season’s designers incorporated the ruffle trend into their collections, a look that will surely make its way into your summer wardrobe, if it isn’t there already.

New York Fashion Week Fall 2011: Tracy Reese, Barbara Tfank, and Diesel Black Gold

by fashionpulse

Tracy Reese

If you want pointers on how to have everything in a collection without going overboard, look to Tracy Reese. Fur, prints, mini and maxi skirts, accordion pleats, high-waisted trousers, sequins…every kind of girl can browse this collection and find a keeper for her closet. Like the black mini cocktail dress that starts with a sheer shimmer and ends in a fur skirt, or the accordion-pleated halter dress that’s both light and serious. If you’re going to do it all, this is the way to go.

Diesel Black Gold

A little bit of rock n’ roll, a little bit of military, and definitely not minimal, Diesel’s Black Gold Fall ’11 show displayed a pointed intent: to NOT do what everyone else was doing. Drawing on Diesel’s rich tradition of making casual clothing with an edge, designer Sophia Kokosalaki wanted to break from the season’s minimalism trend and stay true to her more-is-more clientele. This resulted in rich cable knits, asymmetrical silk skirts, lace-up denim, and fur-lapel coats for the guys — we’re happy Kokosalaki decided to do her own thing.

Barbara Tfank

When a designer known for her decadent fabrics opts to incorporate more casual choices like denim and leather, our interest is definitely piqued. Barbara Tfank has never been the designer to see about a pair of jeans or leather skinny pants, but for her fall 2011 collection, she added her signature opulence to these common denominators, and they’re barely recognizable. She transformed leather into a swishing off-the-shoulder dress, and as for her take on denim, they became all dressed up as a capelet and flared pants.

Z Spoke by Zac Posen Spring 2011 Collection

by fashionpulse

[Pictures via Elle.com]

The Z Spoke by Zac Posen 2011 Collection was a fabulously crafted contemporary collection highlighted by vibrant colors and eye-popping prints. If there is one thing that this collection isn’t lacking, it is attitude. Intended for a youthful, trendy shopper, each piece is flirty and funky, sometimes bordering on outright silly. Comprised of blazers, high wasted trousers, ruffles, and lace, this collection is simply a blast- perfect for the girl who loves fashion but doesn’t take it too seriously.
