If you grew up in the vicinity of Pittsburgh, PA, the term “red up” can be a cringe-worthy phrase, as it would usually be in the context of, “you can’t go out until you red up your room!” Red up, or rather it’s more mainstream component, clean up, is something that most of us are doing this time of year as we hibernate in our homes where straightening up, organizing, and purging are common activities that we participate in. I’ve been doing my fair share of that, which has also been fueled by the incredibly popular book The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up: The Japanese Art of Decluttering and Organizing by Marie Kondo.
As my small apartment is becoming more tidy and streamlined, just in time for the explosion of things that is fashion week to happen, I also took on a different version of “red up” to get ready for the fall/winter 2015 collections by literally upping the shade of red in my hair to a more vibrant one. The incredibly talented Nicole Tresch at Rita Hazan was game to give it a try, and here I am before you, as a slightly redder version of myself. It also rings as a coincidence that red is the color of the week, with Valentine’s Day falling on an oh-so-convenient Saturday this year.
Here’s a look at some of my favorite pieces that I heavily rely upon on the weekend, with some new accents thrown into the mix. I hope you have a great week, and Happy Valentine’s Day!

This week I gave my red locks a boost by testing out the Rita Hazan Ultimate Shine Gloss Collection‘s Red Tone formula, which works to boost shine and vibrane and in turn, prevent fading and dullness. I discovered that it’s incredibly quick and easily to apply, pumping out in the form of a foam, and only has to be left on the hair between 3-5 minutes. After a full blow dry and styling, I noticed that my hair had a brilliant luster and wasn’t weighted down; a side affect from some other glosses that I’ve tried.
You can use this to boost your hair in between color treatments, and it’s recommended to use it 2-4 times per week, although I must admit that since I wash my hair every other day or sometimes even every third day, I’ve been using it more along the lines of twice per week. Regardless, it includes great ingredients such as coconut fatty acid, panthenol and pro vitamin B5m, silk proteins, and is sulfate, paraben, and alcohol free.
Choose a color that matches yours, or go for a clear gloss meant for all shades, retailing for $26 at RitaHazan.com, Sephora, and ULTA.

[Post-treatment, starting the blow dry process]
Ladies, we all know what a good hair day can do for your self-esteem. For this reason alone, I must highly praise (and thank) the Milbon Linkage Meu treatment I recently received at its launch party at the Rita Hazan hair salon on Fifth Avenue.
Linkage Meu is a quick, three-step salon treatment which regenerates the quality of your hair. Designed to be an additional service to a salon’s normal offerings of cut, color and blow dry, the Linkage Meu treatment consists of a shampoo, conditioner, and final coat, plus aroma therapy and a home care component. Cohesively, it protects and conditions to provide silky, smooth, pliable hair.
