London Fashion Week, generally speaking, took a slightly more gentle approach on the runway for spring 2018, compared to New York’s maximalist, brightly-colored collections from the previous week. Many trends aired on the side of dainty and romantic, and many designers kept the color palette reserved to pastel hues. One major breakout trend was the heavy use of ruffles, whether it be in a bold, daring look, or found within a classic, ultra-feminine dress. Designers like Christopher Kane, David Koma, and Molly Goddard all incorporated the trend into their most recent collections, each with a unique twist.
The most recent offering by Ashish was inspired by a gloomy, dark mood, that has encapsulated the designer in recent months, as well as the recent eclipse. Pieces featured phrases like “Good Mourning,” and “Rest in Peace,” and the collection included ruffled gowns in sequin detailing. David Koma‘s spring 2018 show was inspired by athletic wear, and fell more on the bold side with the inclusion of a black leather mini-dress and a statement ruffle detail.
