The Show: Nicholas K Fall 2013
The Theme: Unisex is best
The Color Palette: Sand, olive, charcoal, muted cobalt
The Collection’s Signature Look: No one does layers better than Nicholas K — no one. This season proved that the masters of the cool downtown draped look have returned to claim their thrown, and the layering pieces, from cropped ponchos to long scarf-like shawl sweaters and slouchy, Dolman sleeves can be swapped between him and her. From day to evening options, every single pieces stays within the Nicholas K. framework of approachable wearibility, making even a fur trimmed long coat casual.

The Theme: Desert Storm
The Color Palette: beige, cream, white, ochre
Best/Collection’s Signature Standout Look: While fun, styled accessories came into play (oversized oval glasses, beanie hats, head scraves, arm warmers, and men’s shoes by Vintage Shoe Company), we loved the effortless, chic layering and casual meets luxe hoodies that appeared in silken, parachute-like mixed materials. A favorite piece was certainly a cutaway trench coat that added a practical yet glam element to the collection.

[At Nicholas K, 9am, first day of New York Fashion Week. Don’t you love the security guards in the background?]
Let’s get it started! Day one was off to a rapid start, beginning with backstage at the very first show of the season, Nicholas K, at 8am. All I had time for this morning was some tinted moisturizer, Maybelline’s new Fit Me! Concealer #10, and Maybelline Falsies Mascara — no time for contact lenses! It was unbelievably FREEZING COLD outside, so I decided to nix anything that required tights for Day 1 – and instead opted for comfy, but nonetheless chic (and warm) look! Pants and my fleece-lined booties were the BEST idea I could have had on this day, as pockets were key for shoving show invites, pens, vitamins, and gum into them, and my feet looked chic without having to worry about throwing on a longer pair of boots.
