NYFW FALL 2013: Cushnie et Ochs, Parkchoonmoo

by Julia DiNardo

The Show: Cushnie Et Ochs Fall 2013

The Theme: Pilgrims and Witches

The Color Palette: White, black, dark green, and grey

Best/Collection’s Signature Standout Look: The design duo most well known for their body conscious dresses decided to travel into the woods for fall and presented looks that were polished and sleek. A fox fur jacket paired with a crisp white dress encapsulated the wintry whites while an array of dresses in forest green featured more modest versions of the brand’s signature cutouts. An eye catching piece amidst the monochromatic cast of colors was a silk dress with a print of sunlight peeping through the branches of trees in a wood. If anyone should happen to get lost in the woods, these are the clothes that they would certainly want to find there.

The Show: Parkchoonmoo Fall 2013

The Theme: Winter frost

The Color Palette: Black, white, and blue

The Collection’s Signature, Standout Look: Parkchoonmoo’s ready-to-wear collection for fall will keep people looking sleek and confident if they happen to find themselves visiting an arctic tundra. Black padded sweatshirts, white turtlenecks and tailored leather separates made the model’s look as cool as the weather was during the recent blizzard in New York. Images of glaciers were printed on a few of the shirts as a nod to the collection’s inspiration of a winter landscape. One particular look that stood out was a black satin dress that looked as though a small blanket was tied around the model’s shoulders, coming together in a knot at the front. Knits came into play with oversized ivory turtlenecks and cozy sweaters in the same shade.

The Feet of Fashion Week

by Julia DiNardo

This month I wrote a few articles from New York Fashion Week for SOREL’s Blog, which was a blast, and my absolute favorite piece was this one, “The Feet of Fashion Week,” in which I photographed, observed, and reported on the trends seen both on the feet of show attendees and what we can look forward to for spring 2013!

At New York Fashion Week, you can expect to see the most stylish looks, both on the runway and off, with footwear selections bringing the look together and driving the overall aesthetic home. For spring collections the possibilities are endless, thanks to the warmer weather.  Silhouettes were able to run the gamut from sandals to peep toe stilettos, booties, hi-top sneakers, motorcycle boots, and more.

Several major trends kept resurfacing on the runway and on the feet of stylish show attendees, designers, hair, makeup, and nail artists working backstage.  Here are our top five favorites that we spotted throughout the week.

Ultra-Pointy Toe Shoes
We’ve enjoyed a soft, rounded toe for many seasons, but the return of a sharper, aerodynamic silhouette in footwear is now upon us. With inspiration that harks back to the 1990s, it only makes sense that the shape of footwear from that decade also makes an appearance.

Pointed shapes look ultra sleek in black, which we saw in stilettos, kitten heels, and flats, but added some color and texture via suede or a woven material giving the trend a fresh and modern update. Click here to read the rest of my fab footwear article at the SOREL Blog!

New York Fashion Week Spring 2013 Collections: Katie Gallagher, CZAR by Cesar Galindo

by Julia DiNardo

The Show: Katie Gallagher Spring 2013

The Theme: Everything Forever- an ode to the remnants of our past, ingrained in us and ever-present

The Color Palette: A decidedly minimalistic  color palette comprised of ivory, creme, raven, and metallic slate.

Best/Collection’s Signature Standout Look: Gallagher’s Everything Forever featured form-fitting silhouettes of luscious lambskin and kangaroo leather separates, high neck halter dresses and stylish peplums.  Draping was present in most of the shapes, along with sheer fabrics, reinforcing the demure femininity that this collection was inspired by.

The Show: CZAR by Cesar Galindo Spring/Summer 2013 Runway Show

The Theme: What A Woman Wants

The Color Palette: Bright, bold hues of citrus colors: raspberry, tangerine, chartreuse, azure, and persimmon along with neutral naturals of stone, sand and noir

Best/Collection’s Signature Standout Look: With every model that came down the runway, a new option of feminine dressing arose.  Beautiful draping and interesting hemlines dominated the pieces in Galindo’s Spring/Summer collection and smart, easy to wear shapes like trapeze and maxi dresses made these items desirable to any woman.  Luscious iridescent twill separates were the ideal compliment to the soft silhouettes in the line.  Sequins and shine also had their time in the spotlight, matched up with sophisticated brocades and natural prints.  No matter what a woman may want from fashion, CZAR by Cesar Galindo can deliver it to her.
