I took a bit of a break posting my looks between Day 5 and Day 6 because… I was on a bit of a sensory overload from being in the midst of fashion week, and I’m sure you were too! Despite the chilly temps, all-in-all it was a wonderful time, and I’m already missing the beauty and creativity every where that I looked. Don’t get me wrong: I do love my regular routine and was glad to get back to it, but in retrospect there’s just something so romantic about something being revealed for the first time via an active fashion runway and those immediate, iconic New York cityscapes once you step outside of the venue…

In this look I combined hard and soft elements, texture and volume, streamlined and modern aesthetics. I was very much looking forward to wearing this look ALL week long, holding out for one of the warmer days on which to do so, which basically was when it hit a “comfortable” 30 degrees! Dressing stylishly in the winter is still the ultimate fashion test, and I can report varying degrees of success with it, but the bottom line is warmth and comfort are king!

Being glamorous and being practical; two things that for whatever reason, are diametrically opposed. There are of course exceptions, but when it comes to fashion week, this usually tends to be the case. Maybe instead, taking a different approach to fashion can recall some elements of glamour, like the ease at which something is worn, effortless elegance and sophistication that just seem to emanate from a person. I’d like to tap into that, and I hope that dressing in a way that is, well, me, will eventually get me there.
In fashion, hindsight and foresight are critical to fashion; you’ve got to appreciate and have knowledge of the past so that you can learn from it and modify for the feature. In thinking of the past and refreshing it for the feature, 70s inspiration was heavily laid down at New York Fashion Week this season, executed in a variety of ways, both wearable and unwearable for the average person. Stay tuned as I delve further into this trend, as well as debut some exclusive content on FPD in the coming days. In the meanwhile, please continue to check out the live stream from the shows, and see below for what I wore from Day 5 of New York Fashion Week!

It’s literally three degrees today, so there’s really no way around that; all winter accessories are called into action! Without a doubt, I was very much looking forward to the shows, and being in side today, as well as spending the evening with my friends at NARS cosmetics. From the runways today, floor length, ball-gown skirts are going to be huge, as well as slick, seamless turtlenecks worn under dresses for fall/winter 2015.
In this look, I went for a couple of pieces that are certifiably winter-centric, like the plush from these pants and warm, wooly softness of my cardigan sweater. This jacket may not stop the paparazzi in their tracks, but it’s pretty warm, and let’s me stuff as many layers as I would like under it while minimizing that heavy, uncomfortable feeling from wearing a ton of clothing in the cold weather.

In This Look:
Forever 21 Fleece Moto Jacket (no longer available, see similar here)
Eddie Bauer Black Puffy Coat

Sofia Cashmere Beanie via MyHabit (c/o)
