For anyone who has ever admired nail art from afar but lacks the funds or the skills to try it for themselves, rejoice, for there is hope. Self-taught nail artist Jessica Hapak has mastered the art of creating beautiful, eye-catching artificial nails that are guaranteed to garner compliments each time you wear them. From animal print and 3D designs to specialty nails for the holidays, Jessica’s Etsy shop, Let Them Sparkle, offers something for everyone’s style.

She even takes special commissions and custom requests curated toward the customer which certainly show off her artistic skills and exercise in patience alongside her eye for combining color and detail. Jessica even created a custom set for FPD to try out! Once the one-of-a-kind nails arrived in the mail, we were delighted to unwrap a lineup that included a set of white lace, cheetah print, Christmas-themed, and a gradient set that sported FPD’s colors of punched up pink and blue. But aside from the amazing hand-wrought designs, the best part about these nails are their low, low prices, with sets ranging from just $9 to $15. Currently we’ve got our eye on a set of Chanel-inspired nails, and with Halloween coming up LetThemSparkle has everything you need to take your manicure to the next level (check out these candy corn nails!).

Check out Jessica’s online shop, Let Them Sparkle, here!

Full Disclosure: FPD received complimentary items to review for this post.

The Lowdown on the Fall Nail Trends with COVERGIRL Celebrity Manicurist, Ayana Clark

by Julia DiNardo

glosstinis

Moving from summer to fall, and before you know it, winter (yikes!), we tend to update our wardrobes accordingly, paying close attention to the latest trends and colors.  So why not apply what’s happening in fashion to you nails via of-the-moment color, and various embellishments such as glitter, gems, hardware? I spoke with COVERGIRL Celebrity Nail Ayana Clark (who also artfully did my digits during New York Fashion Week) about the latest for nails for fall 2013, as well as what’s on the celebrities’ nails must-have lists! See below for the q&a:

Fashion Pulse Daily: If I buy one color only for fall/winter 2013, what should it be?

FPD: What’s the #1 best way to ensure longevity in a regular polish manicure?

AC: The best way to ensure longevity in a regular polish manicure is to make sure the nails are dry. Water tends to make the nails soft and the dry mani holds polish a lot longer.

FPD: If one wants to DIY nail art, what are the items that one should buy, and where can they get them?

AC: For DIY nail art, the best items are nail design hand paints, which can be purchased at Duane Reade.

FPD: What’s one important thing to do when creating an at -home manicure, that most people don’t know about?

AC: For an at-home manicure, the most important thing that people don’t realize is that you need cuticle oil and a good base coat – I like COVERGIRL’s Outlast Stay Brilliant Nail Gloss in Crystal Clear. Both of these are key to a successful manicure.

FPD: In your opinion, what is the biggest nail trend for this fall?

AC: The biggest nail trend this fall is nail art with studs and jewel accents.

FPD: Which color and/or design would you recommend to wear this fall/winter to more formal occasions, like weddings, cocktail, and holiday parties?

AC: For more formal occasions, start with COVERGIRL Outlast Stay Brilliant Nail Gloss in Give ‘Em the Greenlight. Then, create an accent nail using COVERGIRL Outlast Glosstinis in Appletini, studded out with Swarovski crystals. I love this color-pairing and design for more formal fall/winter occasions.

FPD: What is the look, from the shape of the nail to the color and art, that most of your clients seem to be wanting for fall, thus far?

AC: Most of my clients have been asking for stiletto tips with one accent finger, studded out with spikes.

A Touch of Glitter…

by Julia DiNardo

Inspired by all of the creative nail artwork I saw backstage for Spring 2011, I decided to try a muted down version at home. Luxe mixed metals, and brightly hued glitter nails were seen on the runway, so I decided to go for a gold look, created mainly with products I already had at home. First  did a coat of the Creative Nail Design polish in a new color. Waiting until it was almost dry, I added one coat of the gold glitter (purchased at a drug store for $1.99), and when that was almost dry, an Ultra Shiny top Coat from brand N.Y.C. As you can see from the pics of the nails at night,  the glitter definitely had some glow to it!
