New York Fashion Week Spring 2013 Collections: Norisol Ferrari, Joy Cioci

The Show: Norisol Ferrari

The Theme: “Think the curves of Marilyn Monroe, Rita Hayworth and Rita Moreno. Strong, confident women who command attention, desire and respect.” Translation: red lips, statement hats, the accentuated waist, peplum, and figure flattering dresses.

The Color Palette: Classic, sophisticated neutrals- white, black, grey, nude

Best/Collection’s Signature Standout Look: Think “Mad Men”. Think brunch. Think of a strong woman in love. Whether that translates to the amazing black leather-like capris or the sexy corset bodices, and/or final array of gowns, what stood out the most was the sheer confidence in Norisol Ferrari’s models: old and young.

The Show: Joy Cioci

The Theme: Mermaid meets the 1920’s; vintage glam and fantasy make for a true beach party

The Color Palette: Crystal-like ocean blue, purple, pearl and white, and loads of embellishment/lace.

Best/Collection’s Signature Standout Look: Joy Cioci managed to make the beach feel highly romantic. Models looked mermaid-esque in lace crop tops, flirty blazers, and pencil/pleated skirts. Dresses moved with models dancing in the sand, and yet, leggings proved to be a must-have for SS13. Swimsuits and swim caps naturally held their own, but it was the unexpected shell embellished dresses and gowns that made bold, however graceful, waves.

Joy Cioci Spring/Summer 2012

Pulling from her background in both luxury and contemporary design, Joy Cioci’s goal is to always create modern apparel with luxurious detailing. The effortless wear of the clothing does not speak to the intimate thought process behind the vision. The SS12 collection felt fun and youthful in its colorful majesty (blue, red-orange, chartreuse, and white). Day dresses in cotton and silk were paired with wide, brimmed floppy hats. Lace popped up in blouses, yet leather arrived on shorts and pleated pants. For me, however, the showstopper was the cotton black crochet lace blouse paired with the silk chiffon black and white motion stripe print maxi skirt. Cioci’s goal is to design with love, and it’s hard not to be smitten with her aesthetic.

New York Fashion Week Fall 2011 Collection: Joy Cioci

Joy Cioci, a relative newcomer, having started her eponymous label in 2010  presented a fall 2011 collection fully of whimsy, lightness and an overall airy nature about it.  The adorable low side ponytails were accompanied by lots of color but nothing too obvious or outrageous.  Everything had an elegant subtlety to it, conveyed via prints and other luxe detailing to mask any overtly bold or bright hues.  The sheer wide-leg pants were one of the strongest pieces, and certainly won me over!
