For a second there, I thought that maybe fall had decided to not show up this year; the heat an humidity during most of New York Fashion Week was incredibly unforgiving, and I just couldn’t seem to get my temperature at a comfortable point. That was, until I donned this tunic. Incredibly light and airy, it was the perfect, stylish accompaniment to a long day’s worth of shows, and coincidentally, my look of matching pastel shoes and a bag was right on-trend with one of spring 2017’s biggest looks, edgy pastels. Today’s temperature is only going to reach 62 degrees, and I’m already appreciating every day that I can wear dresses and skirts with bare legs!

There are tons of clothes in my closet that I LOVE, yet remain unworn 99% of the time due to three little words: “Dry Clean Only.” Because of those words and this circumstance of special treatment, which allots an extra trip to the dry cleaner’s for their care as well as the expense to go with it, I remain chaste in wearing them.
But I’m only doing myself a disservice by not wearing these pieces that I absolutely adore, and I’ve come to realize that ‘waiting for the right moment,” or “perfect special occasion” to wear them to may never show up! Therefore, it’s time to wear them, and worry about the dry cleaning bill later.

Wearing all black can make you blend in, especially amongst a see of fashionable show-goers during New York Fashion Week unless…you mind the small details! Texture, a pop of color, interesting details, complimentary silhouettes, and generally looking put-together with careful consideration and thought give all black that extra oomph that you may be looking for. Also, I’m comfortable. No really, I’m not wearing a single item that doesn’t feel great. Plus, you’ve got to love that awesome movement of the fringe skirt, peeking out from under my long jacket as I walk or the wind blows. Click through below for all of the looks as well as links to what I’m wearing.

Let’s get one thing straight: these are NOT your grandma’s pearls! Avant garde, over sized baubles in modern shapes and pairings are the new way to look at, think about, and wear pearls, so if you do want to wear your gram’s heirloom hand-me-downs, pair them with crystals, studs, and mixed metals for a fresh feel. If you’re in a shopping state of mind and want to check out the new iterations of jewelry that heavily include pearls, I’ve got a variety of options above, and I am skipping out on what to pair it with this week because…they look AMAZING with everything! With some metallic accents and other contemporary pieces, pearls feel right at home amongst your jeans and hoodies as well as with a slinky cocktail dress. Go ahead, have fun, and expect the compliments to roll in!
