The It Accssory: Fringe

by Julia DiNardo

fringe

Over the years, I’ve seen a lot of fringe gone wrong, very, very wrong. The material is off, the length is too short or long, or the thickness of the fringe isn’t right, which leads to a generally costumey, cheap look. No thanks! There is great potential with fringe, however, to look casually elegant and every day functional, it needs to be the perfect blend of on-trend colors and shapes, and a delicate balance of the flyaway stuff for the ultimate movement and chic factor.  You can enjoy a fringe bag these days without feeling like a flower child; see above for some simple silhouettes that work the fringe look with precision and below for the details.

Crossbody Shoulder Bags Go Casual-Cool with Fringed Details (thefind Guest Post)

by Julia DiNardo

From our friends at thefind.com:

While the fringed look is not necessarily a new thing in recent times, it’s definitely having a more prominent moment in this current spring/summer season. Until now, I was adamantly not into it, no matter what the fringe was adorning (shoes, bags, vests, skirts — I just wasn’t feeling it)… I guess the whole concept was a bit too cowgirl for my taste. Now, I’m not quite sure what has me reconsidering suddenly, other than the recent influx of ridiculously cool crossbody bags, but for some reason the fringed handbag look is turning me into a convert! Maybe it’s the way they fit so snugly against your side yet still have that cool sense of fringe-y movement, or maybe I’ve just had time to adjust to the trend and have become desensitized to the whole Wild West look. Sure, fringe is still decidedly western, but somehow during the summer the trend gives off a more boho-chic flair that’s a little cooler than full-on cowboy! Either way, I’m diggin’ it!
