Sneak Peek: Tucker for Spring/Summer 2012

by fashion pulse contributor

Rhythmical mixing-and-matching helps comprise the silky, vintage-inspired, and somewhat uncanny Spring 2012 collection created by Tucker. As stated by designer Gaby Basora, “the Tucker Spring 2012 collection is based on a South American woman who ran a vaudeville theater, the royal Tanenbaums, and traveling troupes of performers.”

A peek at the lookbook has me dreaming of travels to an strange land.; the clothes are breezy, with the company’s trademark silk crepe de chine and tailored staples.  There is certainly no shortage of prints, patterns, or color either. I adore the delicate florals, crimson polkas, bright tribal ikats, and most of all, the emerald paisley (above).

“I want the clothes to feel mysteriously familiar, like a resurfacing memory you never want to forget.” (Gaby Basora)

For me, Tucker did exactly that for Spring 2012. There is something to this collection that demands musing over.

alice + olivia’s “Very Secret Garden” for Spring 2012

by fashion pulse contributor

Launched in 2002, alice + olivia by Stacey Bendet is clothing that packs a powerful personality punch, and lots of it. This year’s spring 2012 assortment was inspired by the idea of the “Very Secret Garden,” a classic concept of knowledge, mystery, and wonder.  It is a ready-to-wear collection of party dresses, crop-tops, bustiers, here-to-stay maxi dresses, high-rise wide leg pants and other separates that do not fall short of a feminine magnetism.

Entering the showroom was like entering the closet of my dreams…and that’s before I even noticed the shoes! Bold purple, poppy, orange, green, strawberry pink and icy blue all popped against the white walls of the room. Pretty suede, silk, and tweed fabrics captured the essence of the private garden theme. One-shoulder shift dresses and the incorporation of numerous bustier tops offered a sensual feel, while both exaggerated and miniature floral patterns maintained the season’s girlish charm. I can totally envision the summery knits paired with the brand’s premier line of colored denim; a fun rack filled with bubble gum pink, lemon yellow, and robin’s egg blue jeans.

The spring assortment of a+ 0 shoes, Bendet’s first full line, presented gorgeous bright wedges, some plain and some adorned with painted snakeskin. Yet, neutrals also remained essential to the sky high pumps, wedges, and flat sparkling sandals. Overall, the looks can certainly please a number of girls, moods and styles. Bendet also continues to expand her aesthetic collaborating with the legendary Gene Meyer on a scarf collection.

The alice + olivia girl is the life of the party, in a sweet, refined way. You can’t take your eyes off of her — there is glitz and glam via sequins, feather, and leather, but there is also a delicate undertone beneath the entire line. Perhaps this ethereal duality is what makes the clothing and accessories so appealing and enduring.

Rebecca Minkoff Fall/Winter 2010 Collections

by fashionpulse

Between nibbles of mini cupcakes, Rebecca Minkoff showed her fabulous Fall/Winter 2010 accessory and clothing collection. This season, it’s all about the cross-body purse with a studded strap emulating that of a guitar, new quilted leather totes with lace-up accents and the enigmatic forest green designs. As always, her bags are available in a range of colors, accentuated by various sizes of studs and zippers and surprising interior prints. Minkoff’s clothes this fall are rich with super soft suede, dark romantic florals, fur, and drapery. Military meets innocence in an army-inspired nightgown, while loud text amuses oversized blouses and penguin tails play up a fur-lined bomber jacket. Delicate tie-dyed fabrics don small but tactful gold buttons contrasted by silver knit reminiscent of armor. Complimented by her accessories, the aesthetic of her apparel echoes that of her practical yet edgy bag designs.

Budget Stylista: A Now and Later That’s Better Than The Candy

by Julia DiNardo

fall fashion

Via CollegeCandy.com:

Let’s face it – August is a hard month for shopping. Everywhere you go, window displays scream mohair and motorcycle boots, but you are still sittin’ pretty (and very happily) in your flowery sundress, thankyouverymuch. And while you know you should be looking to invest in a good pair of boots to walk through the slushy snow in just a few months (ew), you would much rather peruse the racks upon racks of summer dresses that are cute and – um – ON MAJOR SALE.

I mean seriously, $200 dresses on sale for $40? I don’t care if it’s negative 30 outside – we can find a way to wear these badboys a little while longer. Who says you have to part with floral the second the leaves start falling from the trees?

Here’s a way to be stylish and savvy: reuse and rewear your favorite summer frocks. Just pair them with some thick tights, a boyfriend blazer or leather bomber, a scarf, some booties or boots and – presto chango – your springtime floral is instantly ready for a stroll with a pumpkin spice latte (the one good thing about cold weather).

Here are 3 options of summery looks that you can take well into fall, but feel free to try this with most summer dresses in your wardrobe!
