Patterns and prints can feel so timeless, while also feeling fresh at the same time. Each season new interpretations of the hottest prints are showcased on the runway. Following are the most on-trend, favorite prints for Fall 2011 that we can’t wait to wear!
1. Plaid – The classic school uniform print has gone from good girl to edgy. Plaid can be oh-so chic on and off the runway. Seen on scarves, bags, pants, ponchos and more, this pattern is always appropriate for fall weather.

2. Polka Dot – A “spot-on” trend right now, polka dots are DEFINITELY making a fashion-forward statement. Marc Jacobs set the tone with his head to toe dotted looks, however for a more realistic approach try micro dot polka dot tights, a sheer polka dot blouse, or even a blazer. This retro-inspired look has proven to be modern one whether done in bright colors or more neutral tones. Continue reading…

Originally from Milan, Charles Philip, along with his design partner, moved to Shanghai a few years back. It was here that the first-ever Charles Philip slipper was designed with a simple pattern inspired by his love of stripes. The most recent, Spring/Summer 2011 collection is inspired by the ease of a soft slipper, and the crispness of fresh, colorful fabrics. Most of the slippers come in the standard stripped pattern, but others are more playful — ranging from floral to solids, and patterns of whimsy. The brand is available in-store at Bloomingdale’s for around $100.

Sang A
Artfully slung or perched on a black wooden ladder, exposed zippers rocked python patterned leather and suede, all kept within a dark color range fit for the edgy consumer to accessorize with reptiles. The designer herself was in attendance, ensuring glasses were kept filled to the brim and posing for press snapshots. For a while, at least, I forgot about the torrential downpour deluging Manhattan outside. Shop her collection here.

Gary Graham
Whimsical and fairy tale-like, Graham’s collection this season recalls the romantic aesthetics of yesteryear, but makes his garments wearable for the now. The designer fused earth tones with red, black, floral, and a greener aquamarine to create a endearing-yet-edgy collection suitable for both scuttling across pavement or skipping through a pasture. The A-line shape appeared again, accompanied by draped dresses, fitted skirts and cropped pants falling just-below-the-knee , layered with loose fitting blouses, lace vests and tight geometric patterns. His first shoe collection (all ankle boots, both wedged and heeled) proved the perfect agent to seduce the audience, wooing in shades of olive, taupe, and red.

Malene Birger
Highly acclaimed Malene Birger is a successful designer in Scandinavia, proved by the vast crowd who gathered for her SS 2011 collection located in the remote shipping warehouse outside of Copenhagen. Danish celebrities lined the front row for the show, which had an overall aesthetic of urban safari comprised of warm earth tones and soft pastels, shapely trench coats, suits, and maxi dresses. Cinched waists underscore a strong female silhouette this season, much to the pleasure of us bestowed with hourglass curves. Still, topped off with a scarf wrapped beneath a bowler hat, the feminine shapes are given a suitable contrast, lacing estrogen and testosterone together to produce an alluring balance.
Rutzou
Radiating tribal romance infused with touches of elegant Egyptian, Rutzou presented her soft feminine collection at Copenhagen’s city hall to a feast of VIP guests. Revamped jodhpurs are made sophisticated with a sheer silk vest, followed by fluid jumpsuits and playful frippery. The soft yet edgy looks are juxtaposed with overlaying corsets and thick waist-belts on silk pastel dresses, pairing comfort with sophistication. The slouched silhouette reminiscent of the early mid-20th century are updated with long-ended gold chokers and yellow, black and white staned garments and light shades of purple and tan on floor-length gowns. According this collection, the key to spring is comfort, elegance with accents inspired by mother earth.
Munthe plus Simonsen
Optimistically set on the charming cobblestone street, Grønnegade, French-braided models smiled as they paraded down the interim grass strip in the rain. Playful, light, and fun best describes the collection, alluding to an tribal-indian inspiration with feather earrings and floral brocades. Thanks to a faithful audience and stoic bundle of models, the show was a success in spite of the dreary Danish weather.
