Makeup for fall 2014 was very practical; most looks can be easily applied by us non-makeup artists with zero difficulty, which is absolutely thrilling! Key trends to call out include deep, burgundy lips, an overall matte complexion, and neutral tones on the eyelids. See below for some of my favorite looks derived from backstage interviews and exclusive behind-the-scenes access!
At Marissa Webb, Alice Lane for Maybelline created gorgeous yet tomboy-like makeup, using all of the shades in the Expert Wear Shadow Natural Smokes Quad, and heavy on the mascara for that ultra-feminine touch by using the new Colossal Pumped Up Mascara in Very Black (will be available in May), and the micro-brush from the Falsies Big Eyes Dual-Ended Mascara on the lower lashes. My favorite part of the look was the brand new Face Studio Master Glaze Blush Stick in Coral Sheen, applied to the forward and cheeks for a great, natural glow. You’re going to LOVE this stick – it glides right on, and ies super duper fun to play with!

The Show: Betsey Johnson Fall 2014
The Theme: “Betsey’s HOT”
The Color Palette: Neon hues of pink, green, yellow, orange, and blue, bright fuchsia and purple, green, black, gold, silver, and of course, animal print.
About the Collection: The Betsey Johnson runway show was red HOT as beautiful, confident models strutted down the runway clad in neon from head to toe. While Betsey didn’t stray from her usual feminine and whimsical designs, this collection proved that she still has such an abundance of creativity that she can always put forth new and original ideas. While some looks sported high necklines and flowing, long skirts, Betsey hasn’t forgotten her daring, wild side. Numerous tutus, mini skirts, and glittery party dresses were constantly showcased. The collection also features several colored and printed fur pieces, from vests to cropped jackets to luxurious coats.
The show ended on a high note as Betsey Johnson was escorted to the runway by two firefighters leading to her signature cartwheel into a split for her finale, with the models in tow, skipping down the runway with balloons. Essentially, the Betsey Johnson runway show emulated that “one” quintessential party that everyone wishes they could re-live forever.

No stranger to vibrant colors and modern American elegance, b. Michael accentuated his aesthetics by placing heavy emphasis on the architecture of the clothing. Ranging from diamond paneled dresses to wool coats exaggerated with geometric collars and sleeves, there is an edgy touch to the brand’s sportswear. Alternating long red and black leather gloves that add a classic, 1950s glamour above and beyond the traditional eveningwear seen this season. Although the gloves appear eccentric on some looks, it is perhaps the eclectic factor that adds more dimension and addedflare for the runway.
With Mardis Gras season around the corner, the annual Venetian carnival arrived early with the requisite evening gowns in the show’s lieneup. The models wore ornate Venetian masks that matched the colors of each respective dress. With an affinity towards trumpet dresses this season, b Michael varied the designs by using different textures and gradients of silver. The final crimson silk cloque ball gown reflected a satin, silver-like quality, creating a dynamic ending with other highlights like the metallic Godet gown and the low waist gown sewn with metallic graphic panels. As total sophistication is not complete without fur and a date, there were sporadic visits from mink stoles and men in shawl-collared suits that made the carnival in New York City a festive one.

The Show: Katya Zol
The Theme: Mongolian Warrior Tradition, Futuristic
The Color Palette: Largely earth tones; green, beige, white.
The Signature Piece: Zol’s Baby blue wool coat with fur trim was child like, yet, incessantly glamorous and luxurious. Keeping in mind Zol’s inspiration, the piece spoke to the story behind the collection. The glamour and triumph of the look was a sartorial expression of winning a battle and heaps of praise that a warrior will receive for accomplishing such a feat.
