Fall 2012 Trends

Rocking a Bright Trend for Fall 2012

by Julia DiNardo

What’s your favorite season for fashion? For me, summer is still #1, but the fall is sliding into an almost even tie with it, and is securely posted up at slot #2. One great thing about fall is that you can stretch your summer pieces, and color palette a little longer! According to a study by T.J.Maxx and Marshalls, “83% of ladies in New York are also rocking bold colors in their wardrobe this fall,” so more than just me has the idea to work in some vibrant hues! Neon, which were so popular this past summer, looks quite fabulous with the more neutral hues of autumn, especially shades of beige, taupe, khaki, and even chocolate brown.

I made my “neon for fall” look office-friendly with a neon and khaki knit dress, converted into a skirt by layering a striped and ruffled button-down blouse, brown tights, shoes, and a lightweight leather jacket with the piece.  I absolutely LOVE a good geometric print – and it pretty much perfectly matches my favorite Rebecca Minkoff handbag!

What bright color are you wearing this fall?

Dana-Maxx Fall 2012

We love having expectations for fashion, and then having them wildly surpassed. Dana-Maxx wowed us yet again with her Fall 2012 collection of womenswear, showcasing sexy skirts, fit and flair dresses, and her classic pops of color.

There’s something to be said about a designer who makes you feel at ease in her presence and in her clothing, and Dana-Maxx does just that. Her aesthetic is a combination of everlasting strength and femininity, with this season’s true inspiration being “desert architecture.”

[far left: Elie “Karoo” Dress $370, second from left: Emma “Badain” Coat $485, far right: Graham “Arava” Tunic Dress $340 and Nina “Palmyra Skirt $275]

This season’s neutrals are ink, black, mocha, and pumpkin with pops of gold sequins interspersed. Cobalt, ultra marine, and rhubarb will awaken your senses, especially when paired with the spicy Indonesian or alluring floral print. The sensual sweetheart neckline goes head to head with room-to-grow capes and boxy jackets. And yet, every piece can be mixed and matched according to one’s sartorial mood, albeit rumpled or refined.

Fall 2012 Fashion Week: See by Chloe & Rochas

by Julia DiNardo

See by Chloé

In a more youthful approach, Chloé’s sister line, See by Chloé took the runway during fashion week via Digitalfashionshows.com’s newest platform, which allows invite only guests to view thirty looks by the brand. See by Chloé seems to take on the persona of the beautiful little sister, as ensembles were stunningly clean and modern. The palette was minimal yet strong, with white, cream, nude, black, and rust. The colors combined with the silhouettes to create a sultry smoldering, yet fun collection for fall. Silk Georgette blouses and dresses gave a simple nod to its possibly Grecian inspiration through the draping and flow of the fabrics, while the trousers remained beautifully tailored.

Rochas

Inspired by a Swedish ceramicist, Wilhelm Kage, Marco Zanini’s Fall 2012 ready to wear collection for Rochas‘ newest line felt like a strong clothing-based derivative of the main motif. Combining purple, ink blue, bronze, jade, golden yellow, and brown with rich materials, such as jacquard and knits, Zanini put a retro twist on graphic prints in oversized silhouettes. Rochas mixed geometric prints that had a day to night appeal, regardless if you’re going to work or evening cocktails.

The New York Fashion Team’s Fall 2012 Top Trends

by fashion pulse contributor

We’ve seen a ton of shows for fall 2012, and decided to share a couple of our favorite trends that are sure to be big come fall 2012:

Gradient Hues

Color blocking hasn’t gone away, but a new color scheme has been creeping it’s way back into popularity through the fashion cycle — gradient colors! BCBG Max Azria certainly worked sun drenched, ochre hues and made them feel fresh by the dalliance of sheer fabrications, while Chadwick Bell piled on the ruffled layers for his salmon-hued version. The combination got a ladylike take at Vivienne Tam with prim and proper pencil skirts and jackets, while Emerson designer Jackie Fraser-Swan let it drip down into a patterned, charcoal-tinged coat. Try out the trend by investing one piece, like a jacket or skirt to pair with basics, or try out an accessory, like a necklace or handbag that gives off a dip-dyed effect.

Embellishment

The Fall 2012 runways blazed embellishment with everything from fringe to embroidery to beads to sequins, and it is a trend we all can incorporate into our wardrobe.  For a look that will turn heads, take a cue from J. Mendel and Custo Barcelona with head-to-toe beading and studs. Both ensembles tell a story of experimental spontaneity, fusing classic and contemporary to create a look that is all their own. Or, pull inspiration from Hervé Leger and Tracy Reese. Both designers beautified their collections by adding intricate detail. Whether fringe to create flair or sequins to invoke strength, the self-determination of embellishment makes it quite sublime.
