The athleisure market has been a steadily growing trend in the fashion industry over the past few years, as what we wear has been gaining more influence from pop culture and streetwear, as opposed to solely looking to the runways for sartorial inspiration. Pieces that blur the line between performance and sportswear are stealthily gaining market share and visibility in men’s styles at a variety of price points. More recently, the menswear segment of this relatively newer category has become even more pronounced with great offerings from with brands like MSX Michael Strahan, Lululemon, and Outdoor Voices.
Available exclusively at JCPenney, MSX Michael Strahan offers a variety of affordable menswear pieces, from jogger pants and fleece shorts to bomber jackets and hoodies. The prices range from $26 for t-shirts to $90 for lightweight jackets. Brands like Rhone aim to close the gap between activewear and everyday clothing. Products are available for a range of activities such as running, cross-training, hiking, and swimming, all available online. Prices are slightly higher at $118 for sweatpants and $56 for pocket tees. Lululemon, mostly known for its women’s activewear pieces, also offers similar styles for men. Basic tees are priced at $56, hoodies at $128, and jogger pants for $108; all are available online and in Lululemon stores nationwide.
Also noteworthy is Public Rec Apparel, known for its All Day Every Day Pant, available online and priced at $95. The brand focuses on making technical leisure apparel for men, and aims to offer high quality, well tailored, comfortable pieces. More recognizble brands, like Ralph Lauren and J. Crew offer menswear at a similar price point and style, featuring items like hoodies, cardigans, and sweatpants.

[Part of my workout uniform features these RBX Active Military Green Patterned Capri Legging, C9 by Champion Tank, Athleta Braided Headband, FitBit Flex, Happy Plugs Camo Earbuds, & dumbells]
The pants are super lightweight and the ultimate in stretch, thanks to the four-way stretch design, lay flush against the body due to the flat lock seaming, and the combo of fibers and finish wick moisture away from the body so that nothing detracts from your workout. The leggings are high performance, so that you can be too, and as we all know, I’m a sucker for a cool camo print! As sleek as the design is, there is a tiny, concealed pocket that I actually didn’t even notice until after a few wears that it rests on the hip and is perfect for stashing some cash or keys if you don’t have a locker to leave your belongings in.
Overall, I’ve got to say I’m very impressed with all of the functional and stylish features for the price; so much so, that I think you should get a pair too! Receive 25% off at RBXActive.com, now through July 31st, 2015 via code “Active25,” plus free shipping on orders that tally to $50 or more. My particular style is available in four color options, but you can also choose from compression shorts, running shorts, bras, tops, and more, or look for RBX Active and sporting goods and fashion retailers nationwide.

I’ve fully embraced “athleisure,” that is, the combination or rather, crossover, of athletic wear into casual life. It’s hard to tell how many others are as well though, since it’s ambiguous if someone is coming from the gym…or wearing these items out and about! Some truly transition quite nicely between two lives, as seen above with my “going out” version versus my actual working out iteration, with the only difference being a scarf and a pair of heels. Even my jewelry goes the extra mile, actually being designated for both hair elastics and as bracelets.
Athleta really is the epitome of the making this look work and work exceedingly well, while when I need to hit the gym for real, my new Ryka Running shoes have memory foam in them to make them the height of comfort with a fashion forward trim that will match my gear seamlessly.
We love a bang for our buck, and versatility, especially in a world when we are always on the go and who has time, really, for outfit changes?
