Cool glasses aren’t that easy to come by, especially ones that don’t break the bank. In 2006, I discovered 39dollarglasses.com, which let me indulge in a pair of frames, literally for every day, if I wanted to, without winding up in the poor house. For a period of time, my vision changed often, so it was also a relief that I could get new lenses in my glasses without having to worry about the expense.
At the site, you pretty much get as the title suggests, with many frames AND lenses that end up at a whopping total of $39 dollars. Some frames cost more, and you can also send a pair of frames in to have lenses put in. They also do prescription sunglasses and have a points reward system, so each time you order from your account, you get a few dollars shaved off.
The company is based in New York, so I usually get my glasses within a week, but if you are in a bind, they offer expedited shipping, so if you had a glasses mishap (like one time, mine sunk to the bottom of the ocean), you can receive a pair within a day or two.
The only small challenge regarding ordering eyeglasses online is figuring out your PD (pupillary distance), which is the measurement between your pupils. You can do it at home with a centimeters ruler, or have your doctor or local eyeglass store do it for you.
Compliments of the 39dollarglasses.com, I got to test out another pair of glasses, and went for the Tribeca frames in Black/Tortoise. The frames and lenses cost $49, but I also upgraded the lenses with an anti-reflectivecoating, since I tend to get my squint on quite a bit when I wear these outside or in front of the computer.
If you decide you aren’t happy (the frames don’t look right on you, etc), you can return or exchange them for free, within 10 days of receiving the glasses. I once got a pair that was way too big for my tiny face, and returned them with no problems whatsoever. I know I sound like such an advocate for the site, but I’ve been buying from them for years, and now you are in on
