Once upon a time I had a maxi dress that I bought at the Benetton store on Fifth Avenue while I was interning for the brand. Possessing the exact same silhouette as the one pictured above, it had two light, gauzy layers that made it perfect for those insanely hot New York City summer days, was wrinkle-proof and easily packable, and the dazzling print kept it from veering into casual territory. I really miss that dress, as it was one-of-a-kind, and I wish I wouldn’t have let it go several years go.
Although nothing will ever replace it, I certainly can find relief in Mara Hoffman’s prints that are at once recognizable and casual chic. My final look of New York Fashion Week carries on the tradition I started earlier in the week with amazing Marimekko prints and now going in a tribal, perhaps even Egyptian direction with this beauty. Jewels hold their own against it, but this piece might be the rare instance in which I could have worn just wear one piece of jewelry with it and it would have been enough. Nonetheless, I’m a jewels girl at heart, which is the fastest, easiest way to quickly individualize any look, don’t you think?
