Luckily, this past week, I was able to meet event planner and lifestyle expert extraordinaire, Mindy Weiss, who transformed an indoor/outdoor penthouse at NYC’s Giraffe Hotel into a warm, inviting space. As we walked through the space, I snapped photos and have some of the great tips listed below, so that you can apply them to your abode immediately. All of the items shown were purchased for a GREAT price at HomeGoods (Mindy shared that she gathered the pieces from four different locations). And now, you can see what your local store has to offer and garner inspiration without even setting a foot inside of it with the new app, theGOODS, or for some general inspiration, follow HomeGoods on Pinterest.
Table setting does not have to be so boring and traditional; mix and match patterns, textures and colors for a modern feel. You can buy complete sets at HomeGoods, but sometimes it’s fun to have a more eclectic, and modern, feel to a dinner party.
Outdoor/indoor rugs can be a life saver; they are ultra versatile and super easy to clean!
Table decor of varying shapes and sizes adds a personal element; grouping items together of similar shape and material provides some added eye interest.
Trays & texture, such as canvas, smooth wood, and porcelain elements seen above, make for a fun mix and match outdoors or inside; offering guests their own trays to place food and drinks on keeps the party light, and mobile!
Colored glass and bar ware can add some color and easy accessibility to drinks, especially if a bar tender is not present to serve them
Weiss loves framing a space within a space, so this gazebo creates a fun and intimate tucked away space within a larger party.
A great lamp, and grouped art goes a long way, like these examples pictured above!
Rethink the purpose of household items; Weiss says that cake/cookie trays can also be used to display flowers, or even jewelry on your vanity!
Don’t understate the power of a patterned, colorful pillow; with most coming in at under $20 at HomeGoods, it’s an affordable and super easy way to add some color, personality, and trend into your furniture, if you tend to keep the colors of your mainstay pieces neutral.
For parties and get togethers, make sure the guests stay at a comfortable temperature. You can do this stylishly, but having chic throws lying about perfectly folded or strewn about for added comfort later in the night when the temperature drops.
Can you tell me what the designer/brand is for the throw pillows pictured on the orange mid century chairs. I am hunting all over for them! much appreciated 🙂
Hi Natalie, Aren’t they pretty? Unfortunately, I didn’t catch the brand at the preview, but I think that it’s a brand that is called “Storehouse;” I have a pillow from Home Goods that is similar, and I think that’s the brand’s name.. sorry I couldn’t be of more help!
