Happy Earth Month! Did you know that there’s little things that you can do, even when it comes to your beauty routine that can make a difference? From being aware to the practices and philosophies of the companies whose products you purchase, to the packaging and ingredients themselves, you can do your part to protect our environment and even give back.
As part of Earth Month, EcoTools, an affordable collection of beauty and bath accessories that highlight renewable, animal cruelty-free and recyclable materials, has teamed up with Global Green USA and launched its Live Beautifully, Give Beautifully campaign. For every makeup brush sold from its new Complexion Collection, $1 will go to the Global Green USA charity, up to $100,000, a non-profit that helps to rebuild communities that have suffered from the impacts of climate change, rises in sea levels, and environmental degradation.
The Complexion Collection brushes, which range in price from $4.99-$8.99 each, features (pictured above, from left to right) a Correcting Concealer Brush, Skin Perfecting Brush, Mattifying Finish Brush, and Eye Perfecting Brush. These brushes are unique, in that they not only take into consideration the application of the cosmetics at hand, but features particular brush cuts and angles that address and work with skincare concerns, such as oily skin and fine lines.
As expected, the brushes feature bamboo handles, artfully designed and distinct with recycled aluminum ferrules and gentle, cruelty-free bristles (see this video for how to use the Complexion Collection brushes for a fabulous foundation to a spring makeup look).
I love displaying these beautiful brushes on my vanity, and using them even more! Since concealer is the one product I just can’t live without, I am most partial toward the Correcting Concealer Brush, which balances softness with the right amount of firmness to effectively and efficiently impart the cover up onto my skin’s most-needed areas.
Going back to thinking about Earth Month, if you’re in need of a little “ecospiration,” my favorite general lifestyle tip to live a greener lifestyle is to participate in collaborative consumption; you desire the experience, but don’t necessarily need the product. Companies like Netflix, Airbnb, VillageLuxe, and Zipcar let you reserve and use resources when you need them, without ascribing to full ownership, which can make an impact on saving the environment, as well as keeping your own living space less cluttered. My favorite earth-friendly beauty tip is thinking outside of the box to reuse and re-purpose something that we all have at home, but is most likely sitting idle. I like to use a clear glass flower vase or empty candle or mason jar and fill it with my beauty essentials as a lovely display on my vanity or in the bathroom. Using a short but deep vase, you can easily house nail polish, lipstick, or makeup brushes!
