[Stephen Dweck hand-carved turquoise earrings and braille necklaces by New York City jeweler Kemi Gandaleta of Kemi Designs]
The Accessories Council Mother’s Day event certainly evoked some general and specific gift ideas that any and every mom would surely love. Being an accessories girl myself and most likely inheriting it from my accessories-loving mom, I was really digging a variety options, ranging from reversible belts by MCM to a nautical scarf by Printed Village, hand-crafted rings by Ragini Mittal, custom handbags from 1 Atelier (made in New York City) and chic carry-alls by Be Brilliant Bags and a bevy of sunglasses from Polaroid, Pink Sheep Heiress, and Marcolin’s Swarovski Edith shades. With the holiday about two weeks away, there’s still plenty of time to find (and buy) the perfect gift for mom, and/or for those who have been mom-like in your life! Don’t forget to get a card too!
[Three of the Secret Outlast Clear Gel formulations]
There’s no denying that I’m a die-hard deodorant spray person, but I’m always willing to try new things, and I hadn’t tested a clear gel deodorant in quite some time, and with this delivery of a trio of Secret Outlast Deodorant Clear Gel 48 Hour Protection, I thought I’d give it a go! I’ve found that the strength of gels has wavered in the past, so I was anxious to see how this one, promising two-day-long protection would play out. Queue the stressful work situations and fitness classes! Much to my delight, no re-application was necessary, and I coasted through smelling amazing (in my opinion, “completely clean” is the best scent out of the three scented options). Plus, the price is just right, at about $4.59 retail. Available at mass food, drug, and online shops (such as Amazon) nationwide!
[A still from the Dior and I documentary; Raf Simons looking at pieces from the Dior archives.]
I went with my friends Dina and Kristin to see the Dior and I documentary at NYC’s Film Forum this past week, and it is nothing short of completely splendid. It takes the viewer on a journey, with some history interwoven about the history of the house, coinciding with the appointment of Raf Simons as the creative director of Dior, as he manages to get accustomed to the way of doing things at a couture house, with just a staggering eight weeks to go until the runway show.
The documentary largely consists of work day conversations as everyone prepares for the collection, captured by the camera in the atelier, where the majority of the action takes place, and to this day, is the same location that Christian Dior had originally worked from. This atmosphere lends an incredible sense of legacy and heritage to the story, which the employees express feel as if Dior’s presence is still tangible, with rumors that his spirit may even check over the work at night when everyone has gone home. It’s an incredible hour and a half into the world of couture fashion today, and I implore you to find a local theatre, or catch it as soon as it becomes stream or DVD available.
[One classic, and two new LipDrink tinted balms in Buff and Crush, pictured above.]
Jane Iredale LipDrink ($15), one of my favorite lip balms, has added a bit of colorful flare lately, being that it now comes in the two tinted shades of “crush,” a sheer berry, and “buff,” a sheer nude. If combining color and balm isn’t your thing, you can still stick to the lemon scented original that goes on translucent, while all three contain antioxidants, green tea extract, and Vitamins E and C. Plus, your precious puckers are protected from the sun thanks to the SPF 15 found in it, making it an approved and recommended Skin Cancer Foundation product. You can pick up any of the three LipDrink varieties at JaneIredale.com, and at select skin care specialists and beauty apothecaries worldwide.
