The fabulous Dee Nuncio of The Candid Commentary interviewed Yuli and I during New York Internet Week on our fashion and technology obsessions, predictions, and hobbies. See feature below!
Being on the Internet about 85% of the time can be a bit much for some people. For me, it’s a good day. Everything I need from food to fashion is available online. I don’t know why I even travel sometimes. (Oh yes, a social life!) Of course, the web has allowed my accessibility to all things fashion grow like a wildfire! When thinking of fashionably forward notions, two names come to mind – Yuli Ziv (@yuliz) and Julia DiNardo (@fashionpulse).
As creator of My It Things, a founding member of both the Style Coalition and the Fashion 2.0 Social Media Awards; Yuli Ziv is a big name when it comes to the fashion world online. With 10 years of digital expertise, it’s hard to believe where she found the time to shop – even online! Equally stylish and accomplished, DiNardo can often be found at Yuli’s right hand. When she’s not teaching at NYU or designing those awesome Neighborhood Teaze shirts, Julia can be found blogging at Fashion Pulse Daily.
While the craziness of Internet Week ensued, I had a moment to catch up with both ladies to talk some tech…
What 3 gadgets can you NOT live without?
JD: Only three! This is tough – but its got to be my Macbook, Blackberry, and Duracell Insta Charge portable battery!
YZ: HP TouchSmart notebook, Samsung Saga smart phone, Wireless PC Card with mobile for my laptop everywhere on the go!
What’s your favorite thing about the Internet?
JD: It has been a complete game-changer in so many ways; I really would have to say the democratization of endless possibilities; you don’t need to spend a lot of money to gain a wealth of knowledge by utlizizing the free resources online. I think the environment will eventually change and more content will be accessible only by paying a fee, however I think we should cherish all of the ways we can easily enhance our own lives and businesses via the current free exchange.
YZ: Staying virtually connected to all my contacts!
What do you hope to see from the Internet in the future?
JD: I’m intrigued by the idea of interactivity; I recently attended an event for the new Tiffany engagement ring iPhone app in which a person can literally take a ring off of their finger and put it up to the screen to find out what size they are — come on – how cool is that? I think the challenge and the future lies in finding new ways to engage with consumers/readers and build site loyalty using new features that we haven’t even thought of yet!
YZ: Localization – Hope internet will become better and esier connected to the real world, we are seeing it already with the mobile web, which finally goes mainstream and being embraced by businesses – from dating to shopping.
Thank you ladies! It was so fun to chat!
